There is no world in which it is a bad idea to release your record-breaking fundraising total. Also kind of the whole story of the Beto Texas Senate campaign was small donor fundraising, I know we're all skeptical of him but he excites normal people. His Iowa tour has been SRO so far.

Yeah, Beto's whole thing is that he is good at fundraising. It's part of why people are so irked with him for bailing on any kind of attempt to shore up Texas organizing in favor of a national campaign.

It's entirely possible that he still did get tons of small donations, and people are excited. This world however is a a world where it is a bad idea to release a record-breaking fundraising total, if that total comes from an average donation size close to the $2,700 max. It instantly kills the narrative of excited normal people.

I think more people are satisfied by his promise not to take PAC/special interest money.
