I also like the pragmatic worm whose just trying to understand what's going on and have a snack, being treated like an idiot for not knowing what's going on already. It's such great characterization of both a sympathetic villain and the vampires' tragic flaw

This guy has no idea what the plan or goals were, so it makes sense he'd need some instructions if you want him to do anything more complex than "fight these guys right here right now".

I think is just tick figure representation of that classic "old bald man" hairstyle, where you have bushy beard and bald top of the head, while still having a lot of hair on the sides and in the back.
