Did the guy with the good birb photos ever replace his camera equipment? I know a bunch of us donated, but I think he was only like 1/2 way there last I saw.

We have a 19 year old african grey who we got when she was 12 weeks old. First big parrot, so when we were bringing her home, both she and I were pretty damned nervous. Now it seems ridiculous to be afraid of being bitten by a baby parrot but back then I did not know just how babyish they are when they are little. Anyway the guy we got her from told us she was fully weaned, but that she'd probably find it comforting to be fed baby food for a while. So on our way home, we bought a jar of vegetable-y baby food to try it out. She tasted it a little, and spat it out. I tasted it, and she was right, it was disgusting. So I went back up and got the food that had been my brother's favourite when he was a baby - sunshine orange breakfast. Mixed her up a little bowl when I got back and offered it to her on a tiny spoon. One taste and she was hooked - for the next month or so she got a little feed of sunshine orange breakfast every morning to kickstart her day. In fact, she occasionally wanted to be fed soft food off a spoon like a baby until she was about... 12? 15? Not sure exactly, but she was extremely past babyhood. So the moral of the story is: baby parrots like a tasty breakfast and they like you to feed it to them. If it's a really nice breakfast, they will try to stay a baby for as long as possible.

I have a 13 year old sun conure and I got her when she was 3 months old. It was the same scenario with her where I hand-fed her baby food from a spoon, mostly as a bonding experience. The first few months of owning her I would feed her and then she would wipe her beak on my neck (leaving it nice and crusty as the food dried) and promptly fall asleep cuddled up under my hair.
