You think you can take me at Satan's Hollow? Go 'head on!
As much as people love to praise Pierce Brosnan for his Bond (and he was good, don't get me wrong), he was in a single truly "good" James Bond movie and the rest ran from mostly-forgettable to awful. Tomorrow Never Dies was passable, but then TWINE and Die Another Day were just garbage.

And speaking of garbage!

e: I actually do like that title track though.

The only exclusives I've seen was a book with the Target release, and steelcase for Bestbuy (for extra). I just ordered it on Amazon.

Spectre is at least shot extremely well, so it's enjoyable on a visual level, which is more than I can say for Die Another Day or The World is Not Enough. Can't say the same for Quantum unfortunately, although the story does work a lot better if you watch it very soon after Casino Royale so that it feels like a direct sequel(which it is).

Was gonna say that about Quantum too. On its own it sucks but as a double feature it fucks.

I know what you did last summer, and frankly I am displeased.
I thought the Skyfall intro was pretty cool because it captures the vibe of the movie and instead of them just projecting an Aston Martin on someone's tits it's a bunch of stuff that's in the movie. The movie itself is thoroughly okay which is basically what James Bond movies are when they aren't completely terrible.

If they were only mediocre or 'terrible', I wouldn't have followed a 20+ film series. They're mostly legitimately good or at least fun. Terrible movies aren't fun.

Finally got around to buying a 4k screen with the new models coming out soon. I will need to buy a UHD player soon, as I've been buying the disks for the last few movies that had the option. Is the Xbox One X that terrible of a UHD player that I should avoid it still?

An Xbox One S can do it too if you want to save some money and don't care that much about 4K gaming.

The opening is probably the best part of the entire movie, so that's a pretty big downer because once it's over you know it's all downhill from there. It really is fantastic though.

I actually enjoy the first half, but once Waltz comes into the picture the thing just goes nowhere(at least nowhere coherent) and becomes a major slog to finish.

It's a shame though, because Waltz is really good as Blofeld. They just had absolutely no idea what to do with him.

The World Is Not Enough has that problem too. There's a whole little movie at the beginning that includes a fun escape in Spain, some excitement at MI6, and a great boat chase (set to a fantastic score that just hammers the Bond theme), and the rest of the movie just pisses it all away.

It's not really uncommon for the lesser Bond films to have that problem. It's a travelogue series really, but the best of them keep you engaged in the story while Bond is globetrotting around. The worst of them feel like too much of a whirlwind where Bond is just in some new location and you have to wrack your brain to remember the one line that M said that explains what he's doing there.

Quantum is a great example, because it's amazingly easy to be knee deep into the whole Dominic Greene plot and have zero idea why Bond is even after him. Greene's connection to Mr. White is explained in like a 3 second exchange and then never mentioned again.

The totally awkward "twist" at the end of Spectre really pissed me off because I took my like 85 year old grandfather to see it. He's always enjoyed Bond films, but he of course doesn't stay current with it, and I used my best judgement and decided that Spectre didn't look like it was going to be directly connected to anything that came before(and hey it's Spectre, he knows that name from previous Bonds). Well, it was a complete disaster, he had zero idea what was happening in the last third and ended up coming away pretty confused and annoyed :(

It's kind of wild that it took so long for movies to stop being released cropped (or uncropped in some cases) in order to fit 4:3 TVs only for that to come back a few years later for 16:9 TVs.

Some of those are 16:9 shots that were cropped into smaller 16:9 shots anyway

Teenage Fansub

I remember the original Buffy DVD sets used the uncropped 16:9 frame for later seasons with miscellaneous crew and equipment poking in at the sides, so that bit's not new.

They meet at Buffy's fast food job, Willow's gay from the start, they all have cell phones.
It's still use the show's likenesses, which makes the thing feel very weird. At least a redone show couldn't have that.

I was hoping we'd see the end of that garbage because there are widescreen tvs now but I underestimated people's resistance to knowing how things work.
