The Vines definitely have a lot of Nirvana influence (obviously), but the resulting sound isn't really "Post-Grunge" somehow. I like them more than most people do. I think their first album got overhyped as the savior of Rock & Roll and then there was an inevitable backlash. All they really did was solid rock music that didn't reinvent the wheel, but had a really great sense of melody. I stuck with them through their 4th album which was independently released, but the one after that didn't really grab me, I guess I felt like they finally ran out of ideas. Having a song called "Autumn Shade [#]" on almost every album is the weirdest gimmick, but it's a pretty drat good series of songs regardless.

drat, I'm seeing reports all over that Jonathan Davis's wife died. That's awful. I hadn't followed much about Korn or their members lately, but apparently there was a lot of bad stuff going on there. She was in and out of rehab and he filed a restraining order against her.

Is this still the best place to talk about Muse? Because they've got a new album coming out! Hey, why is everyone just looking around nervously instead of being excited? https://twitter.com/muse/status/1035170111768997891
Haha wow. It looks like maybe, just maybe, they're finally going all-in on the goofiness. None of the tracks released so far have been especially interesting, but it's gotta be better than Drones, right? I'm kinda shocked that "Dig Down" made the tracklist, though. I thought that was a crappy B-side that they threw at the Blade Runner soundtrack just because. Unless they've reworked it, that doesn't bode well...

Ofecks posted:Failure just announced some new music releases - a series of 4 EPs, with an LP that combines them all afterwards. Following up on this - EP #3 just came out, and so far there's been some really cool stuff on these. In true Failure fashion, this collection of material is rather different-sounding from all the others, but still retains their signature dissonance and expert craftsmanship. The last one probably won't be until the end of the year, as Edwards is currently filling in for Iha in A Perfect Circle's tour. They're putting the full album on vinyl if that's your thing. Speaking of APC, judging from Facebook and Reddit comments, their new album isn't going over well with people. I haven't heard it, but apparently it's a much softer and sparse sound. There's a relatively new rock station in my town of residence so I've been hearing some cool stuff on the radio lately. They also play utter loving garbage sometimes, like pop and rap-sounding poo poo. Apparently 30 Seconds To Mars and Weezer are Idol-sounding pop bands now.

They're headlining at the Iowa state fair next year and it sounds like they'll be revealing a lot about their new album around then, so I might check that out. Wasn't too impressed with their last album or two, but their old songs are fantastic. Couple other things coming out soon. One is the 20th anniversary of Static X's wisconsin death trip. They're putting out an album to celebrate it and memorialize Wayne Static with some unreleased recordings. The teaser is promising. I really like what I've heard of road to hell. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUxEqqkcfM4 Also Rammstein's new album is gonna be dropping early next year so there's probably gonna be some singles coming out soon, and that I really can't wait for.

Evidently Chester Bennington was working on a collaboration thing with a lamb of god guitarist and their producer, and some music from that is going to be released in the future. I'm super down for that.

Yeah, I love their version. That was the first song I downloaded off Napster waybackwhen, and eventually bought the tribute album. Some of the other stuff on there is really cool. I don't think Failure played it live when I saw them in 2014, but apparently they did the next year when they had Van Leeuwen on 2nd guitar. This was the best-sounding version I could find on YT. The lead guitar is a bit hard to hear but I thought everything else was decently mixed for a phone recording. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dm1Vk0Y7cBk Edwards playin that bass like a guitar For what it's worth, I've always liked the Orgy cover of Blue Monday. I have the album it's on, it's not too bad.

I like the orgy cover. They've got a similar vibe to deadsy in it and I'm a sucker for a good riff. I would also nominate stripped by rammstein, and though it's not one of my favorites, Marilyn Mansons sweet dreams was really big for a while there.

Not really a Manson thread, but the definitive Manson cover is his take on Numan's "Down in the Park" (from the "Lunchbox" single I think). It easily outdoes the Foo Fighters version, although those dudes did churn out a pretty solid cover of "Have a Cigar" with Taylor Hawkins on vocals.

The Dubstep album that Jay Gordon did under the Orgy name in 2015 sounded dated about 3 seconds after release. The first two (and Deadsy too) were really cool pseudo-retro-futurism. Goddamn thats pretentious for the Nu Metal thread, was listening to POD earlier though so I guess that balances out the universe.

Rammsteins first album in over a decade, and in all likelihood the last one they'll put out, is coming May 17th. They're releasing five videos from the album, starting with this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeQM1c-XCDc It's a journey through German history, and there's a lot to unpack. I feel like I understand a lot more of what's going on after reading these two articles, although the second one is centered on a pretty dumb take imo. https://www.loudersound.com/features/we-got-an-oxford-university-professor-to-explain-what-the-fcks-going-on-in-that-rammstein-video https://www.forbes.com/sites/leeseymour/2019/03/29/holocaust-gaffe-undermines-rammsteins-return/#f7067c57d8f3

Actual Holocaust survivers thinking that it might be tasteless is understandable, but Rammstein has always liked using shocking images and seeing current politics overall I mostly see it as "Do we seriously need to remind you of this".
