Also, Rochester is Western NY, not upstate...Ithaca I think, too? Utica is sort of central. Though I suppose to anyone in NYC or Long Island, anything slightly north of Westchester is upstate.

For anyone not from the area, NY has this metro-centric vernacular where literally everything north of Queens is Upstate, starting at Westchester county up to the borders to Vermont and Canada. Nobody from New York would every to differentiate to cityfolk (leafpeepers, we call ‘em) *moves toothpick to other side of mouth* Having been raised in the Catskills, it’s maddening.

To continue NY chat, in The North Country (Upstate to the actual Upstate, near Canada) there's a town that is almost Odgenville: I've been there several times, unfortunately, and didn't see any monorail.
