Ansel Elgort plays the brother of the main character in the Divergent series. That main character is played by Shailene Woodley. Who is also in The Fault in Our Stars. Where she falls in love with... Ansel Elgort. Even in fictional movies that is a "yikes" moment. But both movies were released in the same year, so perhaps it's just a coincidence instead of the casting agency lusting for incest. Jason Bateman starred in Arrested Development, in which there are a lot of incest jokes (famously, his TV-son George Michael Bluth played by Michael Cera is in love with his cousin Maeby played by Alia Shawkat). In one episode, Michael Bluth (Bateman) hires a escort girl because he thinks she's his unknown sister (he wants to talk to her and figure it out), but she comes on to him hard and fondles him, and she's played by guess who: Justine Bateman, his irl sister. Arrested Development goes deep with the hosed up jokes. The first 3 seasons are a must, the netflix seasons are alright if you're hankering. I emphasize that it's not just incest jokes. It's also jokes about kaiju and rich assholes and pyromania and bananas and magic Also, slightly less deep: Charlie Day and Mary Elizabeth Ellis are married irl. They met while playing incestuous siblings on Reno 911. Recently, they've been playing stalker/stalkee on It's Always Sunny in Philadephia.

If two people play relatives in a film, it's the same as being actually related. Acting is the same as real life. So remember when Ian McKellen said he is not a wizard but was actually pretending to be a wizard? Well, he is really a wizard.

It's never going to get more mad than Dexter, which started with Michael C Hall and Jennifer Carpenter getting into a relationship while playing siblings onscreen and ended with the writers trying to add an incest storyline between their characters after the two of them had divorced.

I remember reading about Dexter getting all incesty but that was long after I stopped watching it. I know the characters weren’t actually biologically related, but if that’s the best defense you have maybe just don’t do it. I didn’t know that about the actors though, that’s loving weird.

VVVVVVVVV There are absolutely some atypical dynamics at play there, and it seems wholly reasonable to find those icky. The definition of "incest" from multiple sources seems to be relations to anyone so closely related that marriage is prohibited. Step-siblings wouldn't definitively apply but all things being fair, many if not most would probably agree with you. cvnvcnv fucked around with this message at 16:05 on Apr 6, 2019 |

I’m not into splitting hairs, I consider hooking up with your adopted sibling that you’ve been raised with since a young age to still be incest, but maybe I’m just behind the times.

We don't have some innate DNA sense where we know who our blood relatives are but we do have some kind of mental barrier against developing romantic and sexual feelings for anyone we've grown up with very closely from a young age and that's a pretty good substitute that should protect us most of the time. From a biological standpoint having kids with your adopted sibling isn't bad but why did you develop feelings for them in the first place is the question. It's not like Clueless where Cher and Josh became family somewhere around the tweens.
