Now that you mention it, yeah, I don't think it's possible to name the computer during a normal setup anymore. I change computer names all the time though, haven't had any issues. edit: lovely page snipe

I'm pretty sure the name gets autogenerated without any chance for you to intervene and then you can just change it if you care, since the vast majority of non-domain Windows users would never notice anyway.

Now I am stuck without such a notification on my smartphone and I feel my only option is to get rid of my desktop computer... maybe that will delete my previous choice and finally allow for my smartphone to notify me about clock changes.

Is there a trick to getting 5.1 sound working correctly? I did a clean install last night and I no longer get 5.1 sound. The front two speakers work, but the rest kind of chirp instead of playing the test sound. I reinstalled the drivers for the on-board sound last night and had no luck. It seems to be a semi-common issue, but most of the other people having it are using optical outs and I'm just using the standard 3.5 mm ports. Any ideas or suggestions on where to start?

Weird question here, but since April's 2018 Creators update, what does MS default the "fsutil behavior set disablelastaccess" to? I assume it's "3" System Managed, the "Last Access" updates are Disabled. This in an elevated command prompt, without quotes, will tell you what yours is set at. "fsutil behavior query disablelastaccess"

My laptop has started doing a strange thing to the foreground window when I wake it back up again. Here's an example with Firefox, which I normally keep maximized: When this happens, the only way I can get the list of suggestions from the Awesome Bar to go away is to close Firefox. On the other hand, with Discord, I don't keep it maximized, but if it was the foreground window when I shut the lid, it becomes maximized when I unlock my laptop. Any ideas what the hell is going on?

I experienced a weird problem where some files that were cut and pasted to a different drive simply disappeared. They were removed/deleted from the original drive but never showed up in the destination folder. I checked the system temp folder and recycle bin but they were just gone. I managed to get them back by right clicking in the original folder and choosing Undo Move but what the hell happened there?

Can I just say, I'm actually kind of pleased that Windows notified me that it wanted to send a file off for analysis, and that it asked me politely and told me what the file was before actually doing it? I mean, before I sent it off, I also inspected it to see what it was, (header image for a webcomic, go figure) but it's nice to see that someone who actually loving uses their operating system decided to code in sensible features. Why does my six-year-old Lenovo laptop keep randomly Blue Screening? Over the last six months, I've gotten intermittent "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" errors, and they always occur either when hibernation fucks up the the middle of the night for whatever reason, or when I'm messing around with windows when pulling up like a Twitch stream or whatever. Googling the problem just suggests a bunch of random "driver bad, did you gently caress with your hardware or updates?" posts, but I haven't had driver updates or any changes to the hardware in that time. I rarely even plug in my usb wireless mouse into it anymore. CrystalDiskInfo shows the three-year-old HDD is fine, and I did a couple Memtest passes a few months ago that came up clean as well. Also, I fresh reinstalled Win10 1809 late last October, so it's not like there's any prior version cruft to blame here.

Tried to install the May 2019 update via the Windows Insider program. After download the entire loving ISO and spending 20 minutes trying to install, it said it wasn't able to proceed because something wasn't compatible, a driver, service or app, but it wouldn't say what it was. Then it says no action required. Microsoft, 1: Do the compatibility check before downloading GBs of data that are useless to me. 2: Tell me what the eff isn't compatible - you never know, I might not need that particular thing installed!

But, at this point, the browser still seems very unfinished: Plenty of features aren't working (like spellcheck), plus no tab mute (hope they implement that, would get me to switch from Chrome considering they're removing the feature with the next version).

The File Explorer works so loving well in 1903. Jesus Christ. Also, anyone knows some small standalone Direct3D game/app to test that vGPU in Sandbox? --edit: That's certainly weird. The Sandbox desktop composits at a low framerate, but I found that Groundwiz RTS Demo as benchmark, and it renders at framerates up to 75 fps. --edit: Unigine Heaven works acceptably enough. VSync is an issue, with what using RDP as render endpoint. Hope someone can get this to work on native Hyper-V. --edit: These assholes didn't sign the Virtual Render Driver, so manual installation is a hassle. With 1903 they've changed the handling of Zen CPUs. My Threadripper used to drop to 2.16GHz (or whatever it is exactly) doing simple poo poo like watching a Youtube video and nothing else, now it doesn't really go below 3GHz.
