You Absolutely never leave a squadmate hanging on a hi20. I think that's in the pilot's handbook somewhere. And as convenient as it would be to destroy a bunch of sitting Ducks, our job is to hit the station's main defenses so the fleet can drop in without getting savaged by the omnigun. Once that's taken care of then we can go as loud as we like.

Interesting fact I recently learned: the 'big iron' used by Texas rangers was so huge because it was originally designed to be used by cavalry, with the holsters attached to the saddle. It was never intended to be hung on your hip.

You’re in motion before Jacobin can finish his taunting, trying to close the distance. But after a few hops you can tell you’re not going to make it in time, the Bombard’s maglauncher already nearing full charge. With one eye on the tell-tale arcing from the launcher’s tip, you reach out and latch onto an infantry bunker sticking out of the top of the transport. The armature’s grapple-fingers sink into the metal, and with the barest whisper of protest Baby’s augmented motivators rip the hunk of metal loose. You see the triple-arc flare on the launcher, and you toss your improvised cover in front of you. (HA/AT B04-X Attack vs Evasion: 1, Failure.) (Baby Hull Check vs Earthshaker Shell: 11, Success) The massive hypervelocity round hits square on the twisted metal before you, vaporizing it and nearly knocking Baby over with the concussion. But you keep her upright, and are once again on the move. On the last transport before the Bombard you slide off the front low, keeping the bulk of the frame between you and its defensive chaingun. You trigger the reactor valve, sending hot plasma coursing through the channels in Baby’s right armature. Once again the motivators spin up and unleash burning hot metal at the Bombard’s leg. (Baby Barrage Attack vs Evasion: 18, Success [8 damage, 1/6 self-heat]) (Baby Barrage Attack vs Evasion: 11, Success [2 damage]) (HA/AT B04-X Structure Check: 3, 6 [System Damage: Bombard Cannon]) The one-two combo sends shrapnel flying around the Bombard’s undercarriage, shredding the maglauncher’s cyro-coolant lines. You’re about to press your advantage when the larger frame’s geometry changes ever-so-slightly, bringing you within the firing arc of the chaingun. (HA/AT B04-X Attack vs Evasion: 10, Success [3 damage, Kock-back3]) The impacts, while mostly absorbed by Baby’s armor, send you careening backwards, imbedding your frame into the front of the following transport. The vehicle beneath your mech groans worryingly, the chaingun weakening an already stressed drivetrain. An open comm pops in the cockpit. “God. Dammit! Listen you cretinous fuckwad, you don’t want to die on this shitball any more than I do. So why don’t you just take the cut that was offered to you, and then I don’t have to vent my reactor onto you. How does that sound?” You eye Baby’s status board, green but battered. And who knows when you’ll get to proper facilities. You toggle the comm. ”Mon ami? Are you familiar with the Bodhisattva of Broken Noses’ First Wisdom?” You key Baby’s reactor safeties, overcharging her systems. Warning chimes sound, but you ignore them. ”First Wisdom? What the gently caress are you on about?” Once again you’re in motion, kicking off the transport's surface and hitting the Bombard’s leg mid-leap. Grapple-points try and find purchase in the seams of the frame’s armor. (Baby Overcharge-Grapple vs Evasion: 15, Success [4/6 self-heat) Grip obtained, you redline Baby’s motivators. Slowly, ponderously, the Bombard loses contact with the platform. You hear Jacobin’s panicked squawking over the comm, but you ignore it in favor of keeping Baby’s strength from ripping herself apart. Putting all your own strength against the controls, you get Baby turning. Just before you hit the optimal angle, you focus back on the open comm. ” ‘Remember, the ground is like God’s own loving fist. Why bloody your own knuckles on some gently caress when you can make them eat poo poo instead?’ Thus Haoyi Mei spoke her first wisdom.” With an armature-bending force, you heave the Bombard backwards off the side of the platform. It makes it nearly 20 meters before it hits the ground at speed, turning it into a twisted ball of wreckage and flame. I’ve nearly finished LOCKING PERSISTENCE out of the station systems, enjoy YOUR last moments of freedom.” You roll your eyes at the comm indicator, and turn your attention back to the tacfeed. You, Gawain, and Clutch have found a bit of cover at the base of the Omnigun emplacement, waiting for Nimrod to finish her sweep. And speak of the devil… ”Heyya, its ya bestgurl! Gots a Sniper-pattern up high, and 2-3 squads of subalts scattered around the base.” Her face goes serious. ”And ya bestgurl’s noticed some weirds with that thing. Several deviations from both the HORUS pattern and what was detailed in HOUSEKEEPING’s report. It might not mean anything, but Al, uh, ya bestgurl though it best ta report it.” You look over the new info on the tacfeed. You’ve got enough to blow the power feed for the emplacement, but Nimrod is your resident HORUS weirdo. She might be onto something. A: Quick Explosions Nimrod and Clutch have enough ordinance to blow the power feeds quickly B: Extreme Explosions Give Clutch time to spool up the Apocalypse Rail.
