On the contrary, Phasma makes me think they definitely learned something from how people reacted to Boba Fett.

However, no way in hell I'm willing to watch someone putting their head so far up their rear end their body assumes doughnut-shape.

And he only talked about it for 80 minutes and that's still a long video but there's a lot to unpack with #ChangeTheChannel and it's important that people talk about this.

No-one went to see Iron Man and came out saying they really liked how low-key it was, and hundreds of films have had a next-time baddy gurn at the audience near the end. The MCU has made bank using very old-fashioned tools: shitloads of marketing, a consistent product, and carefully nurtured brand loyalty.

I think that having their movies start out from then move in toward each other worked very well in building that brand loyalty. The shared Marvel banner serving to associate the prestige of Iron Man with the subsequent movies for promotion purposes turning to a genuine brand loyalty as each subsequent movie failed to bomb, so that the real start of the shared cinematic universe was built on separate foundations of decent movies. In comparison, the attempts to manufacture shared universes fail precisely because they don't build this initial brand loyalty, opting instead to simply mimic the phenomena by going straight to promising a big expansive cinematic universe to an audience that doesn't yet exist. The DC shared universe is just here's a new Superman, oh yeah and do you remember Batman?? Anyway, here's them and Wonder Woman fighting literally Superman's most iconically powerful enemy and did you catch the references to the Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman? Because they were really long and frankly of confusing service to the plot of the movie, anyway Superman's dead, see him next time on the Justice League because you know we didn't just put him on the movie poster for laughs. Green Lantern's not in this because his movie actually bombed rather than just received poor reviews. Hey, here's a Wonder Woman movie and an Aquaman movie - enjoy. It's house with one foundation - Man of Steel - and it's not a good foundation. Ghostlight fucked around with this message at 10:45 on Apr 29, 2019 |
