I'm only an uncle, but I'm pretty sure the job description for that is "make fun of them, embarrass them and spoil the poo poo out of them." The spoiling part is the most important, as I'm relying on my nieces and nephews to look after me in my old age. At least one of the little sods should make a decent living.

But that's been the problem from the start. Americans love malls. They will continue to love malls. They just don't love ALL the malls.

Edit: Oh hey wait, I thought you wanted us to stay on topic. Hang on I'm gonna go see if there's a Chick-Fil-A at my mall's food court.

Also tons of SFW posts get flagged as NSFW by their system and they're really slow at answering appeals for manual review when their algorithm fucks up.

Many people I follow who were super popular have long since deleted their blogs and left for other websites. When those popular bloggers leave, there's less incentive for people to stick around since there's less entertainment in their feed. That traffic isn't coming back. I do with tumblr wasn't so lovely. Sometimes they're really loving not. I had ten posts flagged, half of which were NSFW. I hit the appeal buttons, refreshed the page 3 minutes later, and the posts were restored. Even the NSFW ones. Nobody is looking at posts, there's no moderation. Understandably, it's expensive and difficult to have human employees moderating websites.

walrusman posted:We have urban malls too. I don't think they're doing significantly better than their suburban counterparts. The one I went to when I lived in Arlington VA (one of the many urban areas around Washington DC) was floors 1-6 of a tall building, and a huge Macy's attached to it. Floors 5-6 were a movie theater with stadium seating. Lots of escalators, a huge food court, and a parking garage. Pretty different than the mall I grew up with in a more rural setting, which was a sprawling, single-floor deal with acres of parking and the eateries were scattered about randomly. Both these malls I'm talking about are still there apparently! I frequently have dreams that take place at the latter.

My local malls are still packed on weekends for the most part, but that's unsurprising since New Jersey's shopping malls typically do really well as it is. The nearest one to me did just lose the Sears, so that end of the mall is closing up, but the Dicks Sporting Goods that is across the street is moving in on the first floor of the Sears space, and on the second floor they're opening up a Round 1 Entertainment Center, which I'm absolutely thrilled about. Bowling, Arcade Games, Karaoke, Ping Pong Tables, but what I'm interested in is that since they're a Japanese based company, they've got legit rights to connect Bemani cabinets and connect to the eAmusement network that Konami runs, so as such they've got Beatmania, DDR, Sound Voltex, and other Bemani games, all at the latest versions and well maintained.

Another way to get past the "no female presenting nipples" bot is make a completely benign post, let it sit for like five minutes or something, then edit in the smut. It's really, really stupid.

I still think Verizon wanted to kill Tumblr. The ‘child porn’ controversy was just an excuse that provided cover for an unpopular decision. If by some chance Tumblr survives as a sfw blogging platform then great. If it doesn’t it’s worth more as a tax write off. Even those site traffic went down 30%, site bandwidth probably decreased by even more and advertising is probably easier if companies know their ads won’t be next to pictures of someone’s gaping butthole. ‘Female presenting nipples’ is so stupid. I had some purely artsy photographs get blackholed. They weren’t trying to make sense with those rules. Krispy Wafer has a new favorite as of 14:44 on May 4, 2019 |

BloodBag posted:What is this phrase "female presenting nipples"? I'm at work and really don't need to be looking up that kind of thing lest it be dirty. Porn laws in America generally specifically indicate female nipples. Think about like beach attire; a man can be topless but a woman is supposed to cover her boobs. Porn basically works the same way; a guy without anything on his torso is fine but a woman has to at least cover the right parts. There were legal discussions on what exactly the line was. Is it the whole boob? Is it a certain percentage of the boob? Does it matter how big the boobs are? Eventually it was settled on "cover the nipples." It was a clear line that you could easily follow. That was written before the current LGBT stuff going on so now you have people that are still biologically male but present as female so you get phrases like "female presenting nipples." If your first response is that "well a woman can just say she presents as a man and go topless" then congratulations you've thought about it more than whoever wrote that. But why can a man show his nipples but a woman can't? That's actually a very good question! There have been challenges to that and people doing funny things like photoshopping male nipples onto women's breasts then posting that and being all like "it's fine, there are no female nipples showing." There was also a video going around a while ago where some women's group or another (I honestly forget which one it was a long time ago OK) wanted to post a video about how to check yourself for boob cancer on Facebook. So they had a woman in her underwear being all like "I'm going to show you how to check for boob cancer!" Then she was all "but I can't show you on me because I can't show my nipples." So a fat guy with moobs walked in and she reached around him from behind and was like "so this guy is here to help me." ToxicSlurpee has a new favorite as of 19:29 on May 4, 2019 |

I like this. The problem is that no one wants to see man nipples, so they are ok to show. Everyone wants to see woman nipples so they are bad to show. We have to hide the best things from everyone or we will have anarchy
