I guess the question is did JMS write Lennier like that intentionally or did those characteristics come about about as a consequence of his own goonish tendencies (thinking of that time he tried to hit on Claudia Christian and got firmly shut down)?

Does he actually think Lennier is a good guy and not a hapless jerk?
I dunno, for fun let's compare it to how Marcus fared :unsmigghh:

I think it's a little bit of both. I admit this is pure supposition but I feel like he started writing Lennier this particular way unconsciously, and somewhere along the line he realized what he was doing. I feel like his whole conversation with Dead Morden doesn't work otherwise.

Mumy came to JMS at some point (I think in S2) and said "I think Lennier is in love with Delenn" and JMS said "you really want the character to go that way? OK." Mumy was not happy about where that story took him in S5 and my impression is that he's still peeved with JMS; JMS in turn still seems annoyed that Mumy slipped a few easter-eggy references to his band into the show.

That makes me wonder if Jason Carter (Marcus) has any similar stories.

i have also been bummed about this but there is a whole half-season of spin off show nobody seems to mention so that has gotta be good right? right?!

As I recall, Crusade was pretty good (last (only?) time I watched it), but the episode order is messed up. Look up some guide online, follow that, ignore how character's costumes keep changing, and think about what could have been. It has my favorite Lochley scenes. Gary Cole's good.

It's (half of) season 1 of what was supposed to be another planned-out show. I think it's at least as good as the equivalent portion of B5 - that is, it'd likely improve on a rewatch with the hypothetical full series. It has a lot of promise, and besides Gary Cole I also liked Galen, even though I can't remember any other characters.

The one thing dragging it down for me is they went with someone other than Chris Franke for the music and it was more experimental and kind of sucked.

One of the things brought up with the post-mortem is that the Drakh Plague on Earth premise was only supposed to last about a season or two before getting to the real plot; Conspiracy within the EarthDome government.

Can't say I'm terribly excited about that hypothetical full series if they were just going to retread old ground.

of all the ways their post-Great War lives could've panned out, I've always found it pretty satisfying that Garibaldi, the gently caress-up paranoid alcoholic, ends up rich beyond the dreams of men at the center of a loving family, while Lennier the karmic goody-goody probably died in a bar fight somewhere near the outer rim

If you start with what were supposed to be the first episodes, it's immensely better out of the gate than B5 S1. Then the network trolling starts up and it gets worse over time. Those episodes are more fun if you look up details on the notes they were getting because JMS basically takes those notes and executes some of them ironically. His response to the "add more alien sex" note is unforgettable.

:allears: I forget if it was the commentary or somewhere else I heard a description of what shooting that scene was like. All the characters are quiet, but they need to be coordinated, so a person offstage is calling out "And hump. ... And hump. ... And" as it proceeds.

Ed Wasser, yeah, that caused considerable confusion at the time until JMS clarified on Usenet they were just reusing an actor they liked.

I sorta miss the pre-Twitter era, when we had to shout into the void of text-only communications and hope the Great Maker would deign to comment on our yawping.
