Velvet Buzzsaw was a recent bad movie of his, but I don't blame him for sticking to the director of Nightcrawler. He certainly committed to the role.

The director answered your question in a recent interview. The answer is "New Yorkers, am I right?" Fandango: How far after the events of Avengers: Endgame does this film pick up? What is the New York that we're introduced to in this movie? What does Queens look like, post-Endgame? Jon Watts: We don't say specifically how far after, but the idea is that it's almost immediately after the events of Endgame. So we get to see the neighborhood from the first movie dealing with the implications of all of the crazy fallout of Endgame. And, you know, in classic New York style, everyone is just moving on and getting on with their daily lives. Ya know, half the people that disappeared are now back, so let's move on. [laughs]

Rageaholic Monkey posted:Another dope looking A24 family movie, though this one isn't horror. It just looks profoundly depressing! At this point I'm waiting for the A24 singularity: A film about 3 generations of women under one house. One, a young teenage girl; dealing with pubescent drama as her social world crumbles, one incredibly embarrassing and painful moment at a time. Another, a working mother and woman of color; silently witnessing the injustice of her workplace and decline of her Major American City, but whose emotions are bubbling up and waiting to explode. Third, an elderly woman; who reflects on a life of sacrifice and wonders if she has chosen her best path in life (alway played by Helen Mirren). Every scene shared between them is several minutes of painful verbal attacks on how each of them disappoint one another (which always reminds you of your own parents), but a climatic hospital visit will resolve their interpersonal conflict and the three apologize. Beloved and really fun side character will die, and their funeral will either bridge Act 2 and 3, or will act as the final scene of the film. Scored by a jazz drummer and a string quartet. The director claims the cinematography was inspired by some photographer who you never heard of (but when you look it up, it's pretty spot on). A common anecdote will be that a song by Janis Joplin wiped out a 10th of the budget, 'But it was integral to the emotional arc of the plot'. For some reason, both Brad Pitt and Will Forte are listed as producers (but it does explain why Forte was a hot dog vendor in the one funny scene of the film). Rated R purely for Language. Almost forgot, the house is haunted by wendigos.

It's not impossible that they'll give him the Gaston treatment and invent a backstory as to why he is evil, and that's basically pointless if the audience sees him as an old man creeping on Jasmine. They went unexpectedly hard in the other direction though, given that Sexy Jaffar seems to be the only positive thing people are meme-ing about wrt this movie.
