JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a manga series written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki that has been running continuously since 1986. Originally running in Weekly Shonen Jump, but now running in Ultra Jump, the series consists of eight distinct story arcs that are generally standalone but share a bit of continuity. Each part has its own protagonist in the Joestar bloodline with the nickname JoJo, and each part has a different theme and feel to it.

So here they are!

Part 1: Phantom Blood
"Even Speedwagon is afraid!"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPCLFtxpadE

The first part of JoJo is often described as a cross between Fist of the North Star and Bram Stoker's Dracula. Set in 1880, it follows Jonathan Joestar as he does battle against his adoptive brother Dio Brando, who has used an ancient Aztec artifact to become a vampire. This part features plenty of horror, some Gothic melodrama, and Speedwagon.

Part 2: Battle Tendency
"The next thing you'll say is...!"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPCLFtxpadE

The second part goes forward to the 1920s and stars Jonathan's grandson, Joseph Joestar, currently living in New York City. After an archaeological expedition gone wrong, Joseph finds himself embroiled in a fight against a group of superhuman beings from ancient times, with only his wits and an affinity for mystical power to guide him. This part features more pulpy action, Nazis, and a protagonist that's basically Bugs Bunny.

Part 3: Stardust Crusaders
"Good grief..."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJEAwZRTUXU

The third and most iconic part of JoJo introduces Joseph's grandson Jotaro Kujo and the concept of Stands, a powerset that would come to define JoJo as a series. In 1989, Jotaro and a motley crew must travel from Japan to Egypt to defeat the reborn Dio Brando and undo his influence on the Joestar bloodline. This part features a lot of horror movies Araki saw, facts about Southeast Asia, and one man's quest for a decent toilet.

Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable
"What did you say about my hair?!"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQt6jIKNwgU

The fourth part of Jojo focuses on Joseph's illegitimate son Josuke Higashikata as he spends the summer of 1999 in the small town of Morioh, where he and his friends have to unravel the mystery of a serial killer who has been terrorizing the town for years. This part features a charming setting and cast, one of the best villains in the series, and is guaranteed to blow your mind.

Part 5: Golden Wind/Vento Aureo
"I, Giorno Giovanna, have a dream!"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ib7g_6PywA

The fifth part of Jojo takes place in Italy in 2001, where DIO's son Giorno Giovanna (it's complicated) infiltrates the mafia to take it over from within and dismantle the drug trade, going toe to toe with the don himself. This part features some fun crime boys, plenty of Stand battles, and a buncha powers that don't make sense.

Part 6: Stone Ocean
"American style. French style. Japanese style. Italian. Specifically Naples style. The world's fingers for 'gently caress off.'"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKtto2yZXw0

The sixth part takes us to Florida in 2011, where Jotaro's daughter Jolyne Cujoh has been imprisoned for a crime she didn't commit and uncovers a plot to enact the will of DIO even beyond his death. This part ends the original timeline of Jojo and features cute buff girls, Catholicism, but not FUCKIN' MICKEY.

Part 7: Steel Ball Run
"This is the story of how I learned to walk."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ysFgElQtjI

The seventh part is the beginning of a rebooted continuity and takes us back to 1890, where Johnny Joestar, a paraplegic former jockey, takes part in a cross-country horse race in the hopes of mastering a mystic art that could heal his legs, uncovering a terrible secret along the way that goes all the way to the White House. This part features hot horse racing action, metaphysical nonsense, and dinosaurs.

Part 8: Jojolion
"Shhh....Soft & Wet."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwDnsgfmG8M

The eighth part continues the timeline of Steel Ball Run and heads back to Morioh in 2011, where in the wake of the Tohoku earthquake, a young woman finds a mysterious amnesiac young man. Temporarily dubbed Josuke Higashikata, the man is taken in by a rich family as he investigates the circumstances of his identity, how he got there, and the conspiracy behind it all. This part features weird bougie people, bubbles, and four testicles.

Part 9: The JOJOLands
"Now, you might think this is a load of bullshit, but..."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjFG03kS7nQ

The ninth and current part of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is set in Hawaii in the 2020s and follows Jodio Joestar, and the story of how he becomes filthy stinkin' rich.

JoJo also has a currently running anime that began in 2012 and is currently adapting Golden Wind. It's also featured in and had several video games based on it, the most recent one being the arena fighter Eyes of Heaven. Additionally, after only having the third part officially translated for years, Viz recently officially released parts 1 and 2 and is currently releasing part 4.

Since the anime got up to the meteorite plot point, I always thought Araki would loop around to part 2 and reveal that the special arrows were made out of Kars or smth like that. Or that the stone mask was related to the stand meteorite.

Since part 7 will probably be two seasons long at least, I’m think the first ED should be “Old Town Road” and the second should be “Knights of Cydonia”

I still can't get over the fact that the steel balls aren't even Stand abilities, nor any other sort of special power. Some people just came up with a method to do magic through creative application of Boules skills.

On a similar vein, I always forget that Gyro only has/uses a Stand for like, five minutes in the entire Part.
