Exploration is ill-advised.
Mark Beaks just goes between incompetent and hypercompetent depending on his comfort zones so quickly it's kind of amazing.

And while there's plenty of Hulk comparisons from his latest episode, he was one 'NANOMACHINES, SON' from being Senator Armstrong.

His head got very Armstrong-shaped too when he was in Mega Beaks mode. So yeah I think that was more the idea all along.

Finally got a chance to watch the last two episodes.

Beaks continues to be hilariously inept at being a villain. I hope Gandra shows up again.

Darkwing episode was completely amazing. I really hope it turns into a spinoff, because they leaned into that hard.

I'm not sure if I've ever seen an absentee mother relationship like they have in this show before. Kinda weird.

Weird duck anatomy letting Della leave before her kids were born.

Can they use "Jungle Book" characters in order to bring in Tailspin? Obviously we've had Don Karnage and references to Cape Suzette, but I don't know if they can use Baloo, Louie, and Shere Khan.

That's not what public domain means. Not having the exclusive copyright means anyone can use those characters, including Disney. That's why there's like 500 adaptations and derivations of Wizard of Oz (including 4 by Disney). It's a freer experience that keeps things alive in the public consciousness.

However, modern copyright law also allows for companies to copyright their versions of public domain figures, which means that for example, MGM's version of the wicked witch of the west is under copyright, and can't be freely used without riskink lawsuit. It's also how Disney trolls most people who try to reference its properties based off of the public domain, so Baloo and all the others would still be covered within Disney's hellgrasp for long after everyone involved in the making of the movie is dead.

There's something I find oddly familiar about it, though it might be mixing a few things together in my head. The Shazam movie has Billy Batson finally find his mother only to have her basically rebuff him and want nothing to do with him, maybe? Though it's rare to have the mother be the one actively seeking her children for once.

Funny thing is there's a fair amount of visual foreshadowing with Jim Starling, his yellow-ringed eyes, him picking up a chainsaw just like the ones Negaduck likes to use and looking at his reflection in it, and far more readily turning to violence against bystanders and enemies alike, even the tone of his voice.

Assuming the show's roughly set in the modern day, and going by how Donald and Della grew up in the 90s, I get the impression that they're roughly in their mid 30s, while Launchpad has a canon birthdate and is a little younger.

It's scary how well Donald adapts as being a millennial stand-in; a college graduate (well, presuming he graduated) whose degree isn't even worth mention, chronically unemployed except in an underpaid family business job, and gave up on his own dreams long ago to just try to survive.

I keep thinking Gandra Dee sounds like the name of a lost city, not a person.

Her episode kinda got forgotten being sandwiched in between Della and Darkwing, but I get the impression she's being set up to be a recurring character. Maybe a Catwoman type to Gizmoduck. Her whole deal seems to be nanites rather than Gizmoduck's cyber-armour, and I have a feeling she could be as revolutionary as Gyro if she could get reliable funding.

Funny thing is I just realised that the fall-apart armour from Iron Man 3 is pretty much the Gizmoduck suit.

Hi, I've been directed over here because I have 54 days to power through as much of the series as I can, and I was posting semi-live watch feedback in the General Kid's show thread, when apparently this thread exists.

So I thought I'd keep doing that while not reading any posts not responding to this one, and then go back and catch up on the thread proper.

But I could just as easily not do that. Let me know.

I've just had my mind blown by Darkwing Duck and (insanely telegraphed) Gizmoduck in the same episode. Webby wasn't in this episode, which imo prevents it from reaching true greatness.

Edit: wanted to mention that the captions for Mark Beaks call Launchpad and Gyro Scrooge's Drivr and Inventr, with that specific spelling.

Glomgold is just the best, while Webby continues to be just the absolute best. I love her very genuine if misplaced enthusiasm. She has boundless enthusiasm and a grappling hook and is willing to use either one for any purpose.

"Talking animals wearing clothes!" Also, they sound like Tara Strong and whoever voices Pinkie Pie. (Edit: they are)

Ok this episode is fantastic. The pro being annoyed at the natural is a little hackneyed, but the comic relief this episode is off the charts.

I've almost entirely succeeded at not hearing The Doctor now.

Edit: I feel like Launchpad is a little too dumb in this series.

I kind of want them to do the whole theme sometime. Both verses. Possibly during some kind of climax at the end of the season.

Webby is so delightfully broken.

Almighty gently caress the Gummi Bears. All of a suddenly I'm 5 in my grandmother's kitchen and there's going to be pancakes. Pancakes neither I nor my mother has ever succeeded in replicating.

The Prisoner now. Still need to watch that series.

Holy loving poo poo. They should have sent a poet. How can this possibly be happening?

Literally tearing up a little with the nostalgia.

Ok, I'm going to try to do this from memory:

Singing in chorus
They bounce through the forest
Guarding the secret
Of gummi bear juice
Courageous and caring
Dashing and daring
Something something
Hearts through the air

Gummi Bears!
Bouncing Here and there And everywhere
High Adventure that's beyond compare
They are the gummi Bears!
(High pitched) they are the gummi Bears!

Ok, checking.

Not great, but not bad for 30 years. I remember I had a massive crush on the yellow tomboy gummi.

This show is too good to me.

Oh, just you waaaaiit

Webby has invited comparisons to both Mabel Pines and Hank Venture, though she's more a Damian Wayne kind of thing with the archetype of a hypercompetent adventurer/hero/warrior type who is excellent at everything except basic social skills because of their specialised upbringing. I'd say it's not something you often see applied to girls but quite a few examples are actually female, come to think of it. (Hank is kind of an incompetent/realistic version of that since he has a fair few skills but rarely gets much of a chance to use them, and once exposed to the real world tends to not do too much worse than a typical dopey teenager, it's more the enthusiasm for adventuring that invites comparison)

MichiganCubbie

The problem with the Venture Bros comparison is that there are multiples of a few characters. While Huey is the best Dean, you could argue that Dewey, Webby, and Louie all encompass aspects of Hank.

Just like Beaksley, Launchpad, Donald and it looks like Della are aspects of Brock.

Glomgold's pretty amazing. I really love just how much fun he's having with his schemes. What makes him work is that despite being silly in a lot of ways, he's still a pretty credible threat and he'd kill Scrooge if possible. Hell, he's actually come close to killing Scrooge a few times now. The only reason he hasn't won is because he doesn't have family and friends to back him up, as well as his fatal flaw of never thinking things through.
