Beyond being a really great wrestler at his peak Silver King has a really interesting career. He began as a masked wrestler but lost his mask really early in his career. He was only 51 but lost his mask over 30 years ago. He remasked under the Black Tiger name after WCW and then lost that, and then about 10 years ago remasked again under the Silver King name, but the commission barred him from doing so, causing him to change his name to Silver Cain and he wore a mask under that name. Not many wrestlers can say they lost their mask to a Hall of Famer, and even fewer lost masks to TWO Hall of Famers!

Ishin posted:Is Wagner Jr his brother or am I mis remembering No that's correct. Also if you want to watch a bunch of fun matches with Silver King he was in a lot of great six and eight man tags on Nitros, Thunders and PPVs and they are probably all like 8 minutes. The one from Souled Out 98 is fantastic. Obviously he was in better matches in Mexico but those WCW matches were really easy watches. Man this loving sucks. I'm hardly an expert on Silver King's career, but he was always super fun to watch wherever I saw him pop up, was a highlight of the WCW cruiserweight era. and at only 51 years old he had plenty more to offer the business. He'll be missed.

He'll be missed. One day I was watching Thunder and he did this beautiful moonsault where he jumped into the ring over the ropes, and onto the middle rope in one smooth motion. I think it might have been during the period he was teaming with Dandy as Los Fabulosos. I didn't take Silver King very seriously as talent before that, but it blew my mind, that would have been impressive from a guy who was Rey's size, never mind a guy who was around 220 or so El Gallinero Gros fucked around with this message at 15:33 on May 12, 2019 |

I remember seeing Silver King have a singles match with Yuji Nagata in 97 that I thought was the best match I'd ever seen on WCW Saturday Night. Through all of that year on Saturday Night he was in awesome six mans like every other week, plus lot of cool singles matches with ultimo, eddie, hector garza, etc. Him tagging with Doc in CMLL around that same time was wonderful too, them against the brothers Casas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugcUJxlBHAU Most of his Black Tiger work I saw in CMLL and not New Japan at the time, but there's a match of him and Eddie teaming against Shibata and Wataru Inoue that I dig and if you've never seen it before I bet you will too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIDmv8fywXE

rare Magic card l00k posted:oh man i can see wcw's ultimo dragon For one reason or another Ultimo was a no-show which sucked (and the crew behind Planet Lucha usually runs shows in my town regularly without hiccups, so it probably wasn't a straight up scam). The rest of that line up showed up and more or less delivered (crowd was hot for everything tho). Congratulations to Mil Muertes becoming the new Planet Lucha world champ - him and Sledge had a big boy slug fest and it rocked (beginning was slightly rocky).

Wonder if there'll be the tried and true "Border Guard" gimmick you often see in So Cal or if that's retired now that ICE have basically become movie villains and aren't even hiding it now. edit: It changed to just Cavernario and Caristico. edit 2: N/M, saw that La Migra is on the card after some further investigation.
