Count Chocula posted:Anyone know small Melbourne bands, I just moved here because of the indie scene. Every gig I go to we have an earnest conversation about Wil Wagner, him being evil still hurts. Looking for bands like him/Courtney Barnett/general indie punk vibes. Twee pop like early Architecture in Helsinki too. Small local bands I can afford. Already saw Hanny J, Mesa Cosa (who I know pretty well). Have you given Alex Lahey a listen? They seem like they are slightly bigger over there, and maybe not quite your vibe (too bro-ish), but I know Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever are also from Melbourne. (seeing them tonight! ) Seems like a great place for a live music fan to live.

You might like Tilley? I caught her album release gig when I was in Melbourne last year, and it was really cool. I also like Plum Green a lot but she might not be so much your jam.

Just contact me! I know the TMG podcast guy posts here. Franz was on This Might Be A Podcast, They Might Be Giants podcast. DasNeonLicht posted:Have you given Alex Lahey a listen? Just found out that Parquet Courts is playing near me a week from now and of course it's sold out. But the venue has a weird system I've never seen before where people can refund their tickets online and you can request a ticket if someone else refunds. So I'm 9th in line for a ticket now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Fresh from my awkward date with a friend of Jess Locke (Smith Street Band), I have a date who’s friend Giles Field recorded a duet with Courtney Barnett, the greatest modern songwriter in Australia! Also check out my other friend’s band Mesa Cosa, a member of King Gizz produced it and hid Gizz Easter Eggs in it.

Dirty Projectors' Bitte Orca turns 10 today. I am getting to the age where albums that don't feel that old are actually a decade old.

# ? Jun 7, 2019 20:17 |

This is also now decade from the whole chillwave thing starting which I was a fan of, it was already a fading buzzword by 2011... Even though it ushered in tons of new sub genre style influences that is still obvious today.

Not quite sure what to make of the new Silversun Pickups, but after 3 spins I've decided I like it. Songbirds might be one of the best songs I've ever heard from them. That chorus harmony is absolutely killer. Paperback Writer posted:new Silversun Pickups album is pretty good, about on par with their last one. I still spin their first two a lot! Hot Fuss was a big deal for me because it was the first time I remember hearing a popular contemporary artist using synthesizers without shame. "Jenny" is probably my favorite track. The basslone sounds a bit like The Smiths' "Barbarism Begins at Home," right? Are there any Andy Rourke-esque bassists out there in indie today?
