I like dogs, had them my whole life. I’m wary of dogs and owners that I don’t know however. Big loving German Shepard shoved his nose in my groin (who wouldn’t) last trip to Lowe’s in the checkout. Not cool. Piss off, scare, fecal/piss observers, medical allergy customers to placate 1% of your customer base is dumb.

It is never the dogs that are the problem, always the owners. I am 99.999% sure my dogs would not crap on the floor of a costco, but I would never bring them in there anyway. It’s too crowded, and lots of people really don’t like dogs for whatever reason and it’s a dick move to squash them in there even without the poopin.

I see people doing it all the time like bringing dogs to my kid’s elementary school etc. Keep em off school grounds plz.

What the gently caress? I don't have kids, but if I did there is no way I would want the schools to allow random people bringing their most likely untrained pets onto the school grounds. I'm surprised that such a thing is even legal.

Yeah there are signs but they get ignored. They won’t be enforced until there is an incident I bet.

My dog has never peed in the house, but she would 100% pee on the floor in Costco. Not sure about poop, but she absolutely keeps one in the chamber at all times in case we go for a walk. We would make it 10 feet from the car before she started frantically spinning in circles into a squat.

Yall every been to PetCo? They got "accident stations" set up all round the store for dog dookz. I love my dog, but she can't go anywhere because she gets beat up immediately by all female dogs. No, shes not aggressive. She rolls over pretty much on anyone if you walk up to fast. Dogs hate my dog for some reason.

You know who doesn't hate my dog? Hot Dawgs from costco.

One time at a casino blackjack table, the woman next to me had an emotional support chihuahua in her purse. For the most part it was fine, despite doing that weird nervous shake tiny hairless dogs do.

Maybe an hour into my time at the table a new drink server came around and her presence spooked the dog so it took off running through the casino.

Dog culture is out of control.

Isn't the problem that there's no legal way to certify a service dog so everyone basically has to put up with fake service dogs 24/7

Why ask? Or why are there so many people that don't know?

There are a lot of dogs that bite or just don't like it when strangers get too close to them so they'll start barking or growling. You can (or should) blame the owners for not training them properly but you also shouldn't go around touching a stranger's dog either.

I work for the county, and there's two questions we can ask when someone with a dog walks in. First, if it is a service animal. If they say yes, then you can ask them what service the animal provides. That's it though.

I think the idea is that demanding people who actually need service animals keep a bunch of paperwork on them to prove their disability and requirement of one would be bad so the laws are setup to make it so difficult/functionally impossible to harass people with legitimate need, which is probably a good thing. It's difficult to deal with the fakers without making things harder for people who need it, maybe funding+the future will allow some electronic tracking system where businesses/public spaces can verify animals without bothering people with special needs but until then the good rules meant to protect the innocent will also reward dickheads willing to abuse them.

Honestly it feels like more of a side-effect of our socioeconomic malaise that stops people from having their own kids/family, even the dickheads abusing rules for emotional support animals seem to mostly do it because their furbabies are the only thing they have going for them in their unfortunate existence and they will spend every ounce of spare energy fighting for their family substitutes.

It's easier to say that as a big guy without pet allergies though, pets in inappropriate spaces is an annoyance for me but one I can easily put up with while telling myself "some people need them", for others where it's much more of a health/safety concern I can empathize with being much more reactive.

I mean I get a lot are real service dogs for hosed up people, but a lot are also using the loophole to bring whatever in. I’ve said enough about this. Sorry.

I volunteer with a disaster response team and one of our staff position vets has a service dog for PTSD. She wears a "Do Not Pet" vest on her. When she's working she's doing her job and it can be very disruptive or even dangerous for the veteran if you just run up and start petting it.

However, when the vest comes off she's no longer working and it's belly rub time!!!

I grew up with animals and spent many years either working at and/or volunteering for vet hospitals/shelters etc and while I would 100% agree you should never approach/bother an animal without explicit consent from the owners I also sorta think that a large enough animal that even has the possibility of being aggressive to unwanted attention should either be actively restrained/muzzled or not allowed in public spaces cause you shouldn't just be chilling out with what is comparable to a loaded weapon that can misfire at any time. Kids can be told not to do things but that doesn't stop them from doing it, there's a reason there's so much legal quagmire over choking hazards and such, gotta considers the statistics of the matter and the relative danger even if hypothetically it could always be prevented by diligent hawkeyes.

The posts on social media about how everyone else should behave perfectly around your ticking timebomb and it's everyone else's fault if fido anxiously bites someone is very :psyduck: to me as someone who deeply loves and respects animals. You could extend the same sort of reasoning to almost any sort of public safety hazard, yeah if everyone were perfectly rational actors and perfectly trained on how to approach the potential danger no one would ever get hurt, meanwhile there's legit red tape and regulations over employees using boxcutters to open packages in industry but a 90 pound person can walk around with a 60 pound untrained neorotic 60 pound rescue pit.

Like at the vet hospital we'd actively subscribe various sedatives for problem animals for them to use before bringing them in and I'd say at least 75% of the time the owners would refuse to use them and then after an incident utter a phrase along the lines of "but they're not like this at home". People are so weirdly entitled about the legitimate danger their pets can be and it's such a stark contrast compared to all the other inconveniences we have to put up in modern life because some people got hurt and laws were introduced to minimize similar incidents. I guess cars/driving might be comparable but at least that's really slanted towards "well it's such a big necessity".

Where berries are concerned they usually just have the same poo poo as the grocery store for 1/3 the cost, so they are always a fantastic buy.
Seasonally they will get in more local stuff that will knock your socks off compared to the usual fare. Last year they had a batch of blueberries at my whs that were so good the cashiers probably thought I was keeping a bear..

FYI on service animals. Emotional support animals do not count as service animals. They are not protected under ADA like trained service animals. And service animal or not no animal is to be inside a shopping cart or anywhere else that changes the nature of the thing. I.E. a shopping cart is a place for storing food, adding a dog inside of it changes it into "a basket which probably has listeria microbes from the ground\dogs mouth that eats\licks poo poo on the ground".

The two questions is correct and I had one guy answer that the service the dog is trained to make him happy. (Not a protected service animal) I only told him to take the dog out of the cart, not to gtfo like I should have, and then he started asking me what he was supposed to do because he didn't bring a leash. I just shrugged and said this is your plan bud, you figure it out.

That's my service dog info, hope it enriches your lives.
