When I was 17, my father was so stupid, I didn't want to be seen with him in public. When I was 24, I was amazed at how much the old man had learned in just 7 years.
In a way this is a hosed up move from a labor standpoint because Atlanta got away with being under the salary floor for all year then a week before paying it out to the players who actually played on their team this year, it all went to Crabbe a week before the deadline.

Mah. The Knicks are hosed if they don't get KD and even if they do, they are better off with a different second max guy than Kyrie.

There's only like 5 max dudes, two of them are going to the same team, so you really can't be picky.

Well we all know they are going to give a guy a max contract who doesn't justify it just to spend their cap room.

Since I'm only kind of a knicks fan who also just is fine with bad things happening to James Dolan, I can live with either of those.

It's more likely Maxi or Free Agent starts than Powell. I really like this assuming Powell is coming off the bench. A bench big that doesn't take dumb shots and is willing to share the ball on offense is cool. I think Powell opting in was the best case scenario for keeping him on the roster. You watched more than I did this year and I can understand disliking him. I guess it will really depend on what his role is next year.

I don't dislike Powell but I think a team with terrible holes in the shooting, rebounding, and defense departments should be more discriminating about giving long contracts to guys who can't shoot, rebound, or defend.

Doesn't the salary floor calculation account for actual game checks, not what that years cap hit ends up? What I mean is I don't know for sure this circumvents the salary floor.

Yup, it was changed last CBA.

quote:

The league’s new Collective Bargaining Agreement closed that loophole. Now, players traded or acquired during the season will only count toward a team’s minimum salary for the amount that they were paid by that team. So the Bulls can’t simply acquire a player earning $7MM to get above the salary floor — if 40% of the season remains, that player would only count for $2.8MM toward Chicago’s minimum team salary, with the other $4.2MM applying to his old club’s minimum team salary.

Glen Taylor is a pretty crappy owner but KG is a weird dude who got super pissed over nothing and probably shouldn't be part of an ownership group.

The team will name Cash vice president of basketball operations and team development, sources say. She will scout, help guide player development on and off the floor, and assume other roles within the organization.

[...]

Cash, 39, played 15 seasons in the WNBA and made four All-Star teams. She was a member of the 2000 and 2002 national championship teams at UConn, and she won three WNBA titles. In 2017, the New York Liberty named Cash director of franchise development. She also has appeared across several television platforms in an analyst role, including on NBA TV last season with Griffin.

You can't stop what's coming
Highlights:

quote:

Griffin is pursuing a combination of assets that include an All-Star player, a young player with All-Star potential and two first-round picks, league sources said. Those wants are on a sliding scale. For example, the better the player, the softer the asks on the draft picks -- and vice versa.

quote:

So far, Los Angeles and New York teams --- the Clippers and Lakers, Knicks and Nets -- have been among front offices inquiring with New Orleans, league sources said.

The Boston Celtics have long considered a run at Davis too, but they must take into consideration the future of free agent Kyrie Irving before committing to a significant offer of assets to New Orleans.

This will be interesting. Usually the selling team has a bit of urgency under them to make a deal, but with Zion coming New Orleans knows they will be able to drown out any trade drama.

Obviously they won't get what they're asking for here, but it might set a new bar on what exactly you can get back in these situations.

It's too bad that Lou Williams didn't make the all star team like he should have in 2018 because then the Clippers could do that deal . . . .

I guess technically the Spurs could do the deal, I haven't heard them in the mix. Any interest in DeMar DeRozan? Dejonte Murray? http://tradenba.com/trades/HkQeQpnC4
