goddamn why is everyone so hung up on rescuing Louis CK, he was fast approaching the nadir of his career anyway. Horace And Pete is the most joyless, bitter poo poo imaginable and he was steadily veering into miserable old man material, he was given a mercy killing. There are literally dozens of other better comedians on the rise, just let this fat pervert die his dishonorable death and find another comic with the courage to tell you about how much he jerks off.

The Max Landis article is some absolutely stomach-churning poo poo.

quote:

“He showed me abuse and humiliation porn and constantly tested my boundaries—this became murkier and murkier as our relationship got more tumultuous, as I grew to view sex with him as the only way to receive love and connect,” Julie wrote in her statement. “This lead to me allowing myself to become more and more abused. He claimed that seeing me cry was a turn-on—this later turned into a routine of him yelling and humiliating me until I cried, then having sex with me while I continued to cry with no regard or effort to make things right.

The max Landis piece has at least two allegations of him just out and out raping girls, one where she said she yelled no over and over, another where a roommate found him on top of a girl so passed out she thought he was her current boyfriend

Didn't read to the end so maybe there's more but all the psychological manipulation pales in comparison to those details

Yeah, it seems like a lot of the defenses come from tribal/team mentality. Louis CK is on Pete's team. It's the same reason Rose McGowan wanted people to "be kind" to Asia Argento once her grooming/sexual harassment incident came to light, and why professors closed ranks around Avita Ronell when her grad student accused her of sexual harassment.

I think it's because her career stalled quickly, she didn't like acting very much as a kid anyway, and she had to go back to being a regular person. After 7 years she retired from acting at 13 and I think just went back to school and lived a normal life until she was an adult and could get some exposure as Matilda.

Her parents were also initially reluctant to let her try to break into professional acting at such a young age; the problem kids are the ones where the parents use them as an extension of their own power and fame and push them into performing, like Michael Jackson and Macaulay Culkin (whose father threatened to beat him if he used cue cards while hosting SNL at 11). The kids end up not really having a childhood and often suffering from other long-term symptoms of abuse, turning them into supremely hosed up adults.

Max Landis shoulda been run outta hollywood after the first accusations, its insane he kept getting more work, especially given he doesnt have a great record of success. This is the absolute perfect example of the privledge of being white and the son of a famous director in Hollywood and what kind of power that allows you to gather and abuse. I know at least 5 other kids of famous people that are just like him but they have no recognizable fame so are unfortunately not as vulnerable to being called out. Its a weird loving place filled with a lot of garbage and desperate people willing to let anyone get away with anything for the sake of social status. Everythings a loving cult of abuse in LA. Just watch Under the Silver Lake.

I cant believe I got into a heated debate with him once over Snyders ethical portrayal of Superman in MoS during a lot of these incidences. I find that real loving rich.

Hes been a real POS to friends of mine in LA before and I know a few people who were in and out of his Colour Society horseshit for a few years so its really loving satisfying to hopefully see his ship finally loving sink.

With Max Landis it's loving insane that he kept getting work, nothing he made after Chronicle was a financial success and they kept giving millions of dollars and then you have someone like Patty Jenkins, who directed a movie that got Charlize Theron her oscar and then nothing until they needed a woman director for Wonder Woman.

Culkin has attested how he spent much of his childhood acting career in terror because he couldn't tell anyone about his dad and was basically locked in the room with a monster all the time.

I was at one of the first nerf parties mentioned. Oddly enough I’ve never had a bad interaction with him but they were always brief and uneventful.

At the second and final one he threw the parking at the park got too slammed and he told everyone to go home. One guy (we’ll call him Alan Smithee. No not me) who was already there said the people with him were just going to get started anyway because they already went to the trouble. Max threw a fit and demanded they stop their fun having because this was His Event and did not deign them to have fun. He changed the fb event from “Nerf War” and added “gently caress Alan Smithee” (again not actually me) and started a civil war between those who wanted to have fun (quelle horreur) and his asskissers who were mad at Alan (not me) for making The Great Maxsby angry

Never got invited to his mansion parties but it was always struck me as cultlike. Like a rich kid who people only tolerated because of said parties

Someone on Twitter asked about the dudes in Landis' life, and I did wonder about that. But he also strikes me as the type who has a lot of 'female friends' because that usually helps guys like him pull off what they do.

Remember that 'Lax Mandis' script that made The Blacklist? It's not very good, like at all, and it feels like it had been written in a night. But you know the only reason it made that list is because they knew Landis would see it and that it was a big 'gently caress you' to him.

It's a lot easier when he's only emotionally abusive to men without the rapey stuff

pretty sure I know the Jane Doe who was mentioned being threatened with a lawyer since it lines up with things she's said on the record. If not then she's not the only one he sicced a lawyer on. I don't think he ever flexed on guys in nearly as extreme a manner since he never had to go nuclear on them to save his rep (on account of not trying to rape them)

whether or not they were in a position to stop it or see something say something is not for me to decide, but I know some of the primary sources and don't think they would have walked out like Sandusky in the shower so to speak.

The story is so loving unpleasant though. I have a pretty strong stomach, but I think it's the dedication to someone else's prolonged suffering that hits.

The article mentions a couple guys who cut ties with him for being a piece of poo poo, but it’s hard to actually “do something” about this stuff in our society. As any mandated reporter knows, most of the time a report to the authorities achieves nothing, and when someone has a lot of social power like this usually all you can do is call them out to people who trust you and accept that he/she and anyone they have influence over will probably ostracize you. If anything it sounds like what is bringing landis down is that the orbit of rejected and ostracized former friends reached critical mass and outnumbered his loyal minions
