I still cannot fathom how a man who the whole Internet saw peeing on an underage girl because his sex tape leaked in 2000 or whatever still insists on keeping sex tapes, knowing that he is at least under more scrutiny. He got away with it even though he was in clear view of everyone else and is just so hosed up in the head that he has to keep on doing it.

Given his whole thing seems to be power, being as flagrant as possible and getting away with it for nearly 20 years after the first time probably just made it better for him.

Out of curiosity, how did R Kelly escape a jail sentence given that there's video evidence?

Victim wouldn't testify, that made identifying her with low quality video evidence inconclusive.

Sociopaths often have delusions of grandeur and their own superiority over others, which can lead them to making dumb mistakes or even intentionally risking getting caught as a way of taunting others.

I'm pretty confident in saying R. Kelly, the man who repeatedly kidnapped children to rape them, is a sociopath.

Aliyah was 15 years old when they got married, he has literally always always been this way.

An important take home here is that Bill Cosby eventually got taken down because he started assaulting white women, R. Kelly has been a known predator of black women for like 30 years and he just kept making money the entire time.

It also shows just how much power actually affects this stuff. R Kelly was huge back then. Now, not so much. Same with Cosby. One of the surprising things about Weinstein was that he actually got kicked out of Hollywood for it due to him being powerful. They protect their own in entertainment.

I mean look at how many people are still defending Roman Polanski even though there isn't even ambiguity about whether he raped an underaged girl. He still gets to hang out in Europe and make movies. Its all about having the right friends. The only reason R. Kelly and Bill Cosby got taken down is because they are gigantic crazy assholes that not even other celebrities want to hang out with.

Kevin Spacey got taken down because all his other friends were sex perverts too.

No doubt that predators with money and/or connections have it way too easy.

But there's also a gross number of cases that just disappear because nobody gives a gently caress, evidently because the victims are poc or gay or otherwise marginalized. Like, when black & white children are abducted, only the white one makes the news.

Also I think because another actor was the first to accuse him, and then another 20 plus accusers came out of the woodwork. Also he had sexually harassed and in one case assaulted crew on House of Cards and had apparently secretly been forced by Netflix to take a sexual harassment class as a result, so it was easy for them to drop him as soon as the allegations started coming out.

And IMO once one major studio openly drops a person for sexual misconduct it’s pretty much over, excepting rare cases where the initial accusation turns out to be false/nonexistant.

Roman Polanski finally, finally got kicked out of the Motion Picture Academy and I don’t think any major distributors would be willing to distribute his movies anymore, so I think at least there’s been a slight change in the right direction.

See also casting couch behavior no longer being something that’s laughed off.

Actually modern scientific research indicates that becoming mega-wealthy can have similar psychological and emotional impacts to severe head trauma, specifically arrested development and a reduction of impulse control.

Imagine being 33 years old and thinking that dating a 17 year old made you look young and hot and not super pathetic.

Robert Kelly was also sexually assaulted for years from like 7 to 15, according to his biography, so there's probably more going on there than just being rich-narcissist. He should have just had people get him help when he first started obviously showing his issues instead of enabling him (and that includes fans enabling him by still supporting him).

Didn't the Boondocks episode basically say that? 'If you actually want to help him, stop him doing this poo poo'.

Thing is, enabling rich people is built into the bedrock of our society.

There's another layer with black people on top of that; there's paranoia (for good reason) that any attack against famous/powerful black men is white people attempting to suppress black people; so there's kind of an auto-protection that comes in whenever any famous black person is charged with anything.

The Boondocks episode on R Kelly is one of the best things I've seen as it touches on so much at once. Shame Rosa Parks got cut from that episode, too.

This seems basically exemplified in the OJ trial where they were so gung ho on framing a rich black man they ignored that he was obviously guilty anyway.

Might be other angles with how it's frequently violence (especially sexual violence) against women maybe and people seem to have gotten a lot better about that lately. (still not very good but it's saying something)

That's not more accurate or better. Calling it "child pornography" makes it worse for the victims because it's using the same terms that the abuser uses and because it is not something rthat any sane person would think of as pornography. It's better to call it for what it is "documented child abuse".

"Documented child abuse" really undersells it. Like, child abuse covers everything from neglect to crippling violence and rape. A nanny cam filming a nanny slapping a kid is not just a difference of degree from someone making a tape of them raping a child. Really, going off the existing term, it should just be called a child sex tape, except sex with children is rape, so child rape tape. (To distinguish from the likely plentiful just regular rape tapes of other celebrities.)

I'm thinking "sex tape" brings the right thing to mind, because since Anderson/Hilton, it's what society knows as taping oneself as having sex with someone else.

I'd say "sex tapes with children" if I were to write the headline to bring the proper image to the fore.

But this isn't a taping of two persons having sex, it is a taping of one person committing rape. We should call it for what it is.
