I went outside with my skateboard for pretty much the first time in 15 years a few days ago and have learned that my stamina is all but gone. Holy poo poo, how did I spend hours on this when I was a kid? Landed a (very very slow) fakie ollie though, which was cool. Also learned that I've lost almost all of my balance but I'm blaming tearing an acl on my snowboard for that. Used to be able to semi reliably be able to do Primo Flips but now I'm having great difficulty just standing primo. But that's just something more to work on! Agreeing with everyone on the last few pages about falling being worse, though. I probably should learn to fall better. A few pages someone mentioned a 12 year old girl winning vert competitions but I couldn't find anything more, what's that? Sounds rad. Sorry if it was posted recently and I just missed it by being bad at reading.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYfXLBckyGE That is the last day of the Dew Tour, and includes the park finals with some younger skaters who killed it. Not sure if its the recent addition of skateboarding in the Olympics, but there have been frequent high quality streams of events popping up on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33NbcyL2mIs there is another park event that got recommended to me a couple days ago.

It takes some time to get back in skate shape. keep at it if you like it.

Now I'm sitting here 4 days after skating for two hours and can still barely lift my left leg more than a few inches off the ground.

All this talk of Braille led me to go check out the channel again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCEN3t6Z5CY Holy poo poo I'd love to learn how to do poo poo from Carlos. He's such an involved teacher.

Ya, say what you will about Braille, but he's a really really good instructor. He mentioned after Braille he's going to start his own skate camp/training business. edit: after watching that video, it's funny how he uses all the same techniques when teaching different things. He did all of the same poo poo when teaching me how to get into primo a couple different ways. Including tricking me into thinking I was being spotted. To get more time on my board, I'm thinking of pushing around some paved trails that are near my house and yelling at golfers, but I'm thinking I'll need softer wheels since there's usually twigs and pebbles on the path and stuff. What's a good hardness for this kinda thing? Roller skaters use like durometers in the 60s but that seems a little soft to me for skateboarding.

Hell, getting some Shark wheels might not be a bad thing for cruising. They're dumb gimmicks, sure, but they're dumb gimmicks that in my experience work.

That's all very helpful and I hope you pegged that guy in the face with a rock or something. Local shop has some 60mm 78a OJ wheels so I'll snap those up when it's not supposed to rain like crazy (which is today).

I ride my board exclusively to cruise and 78a-80a are my sweet spot for wheels. I have slightly wider ones than normal and they're a dream. I accidentally bought a set of 83b wheels once not realizing that they were b's and not a's. That was a mighty fine how-do-you-do for my feet and ankles

I wanted to buy some ricta clouds, but skate shop only had bones rough riders. They’re good, but sliding is very difficult. I have to admit my nr1 reason was to try and make less noise. This part of the city is super quiet. The scooters are finally electric, everybody rides a bike, only my skateboard rattles like it’s 1984. The wheels and the rubber riser helped, but still. Would like to find out the least noisy bearings:)

So is 5.5" the most common truck size now? I have ancient 5.0" trucks, but the board is wearing out fast and is very narrow. But I have even older trucks that are 5.75", but these will be too big for most decks, I guess? Also, if somebody has a favorite brand, as with the bearings, I'm all ears

The best quiet bearings ain't coming from any skateboard brands out there. Find a bearing manufacturer, get some stupidly low tolerance bearings, prepare to pay for the luxury, then learn in 10 minutes of riding on dust why quiet bearings for skateboards is a fool's errand. lolling hard at bronsons saving money on shields and selling that as a feature

Even though I do a kickflip about twice a year I found it interesting to learn that david gravette uses smaller trucks compared to board width so the board can't land primo...it will just roll over.

Caught up on this thread last week and got the skating bug. I haven't skated my short board in forever, so I picked up some 78a ricta clouds and some bones big balls reds and threw them on my poor old board today. Just pushed around the neighborhood once and came home but it was good to be back on it. I've putted around on my longboard a couple times a year, but it's not the same.
