There is one where they make a joke about it looking like a bong. Also one that was a dildo-hairbrush.

I feel like 30 minutes for an episode really limited what they could show.

Everyone knows The Tick is excellent, right? Because I just noticed that Miss Lint is hiding out at a Hawaiian-themed motel called the Lei-Lo and wanted to make sure everyone knew. The poetic Tick dialogue maybe isn't quite as good as the Warburton version's was, but I might just be saying that about this episode.

I'd go on record of saying Amazon's version of The Tick is one of the best shows of the decade, and is how all superhero portrayals should be in this day and age. Enjoy it now while you can, because the show creators have claimed they couldn't find a home for its third season, so this is all we get.

IASIP is easily my favorite live action sitcom, it somehow keeps improving. Don’t let the first season fool you, it doesn’t really start until Devito joins the cast and even then I think it hits its stride around season 5 or 6

It's almost a different show at the beginning, basically just Workaholics in a bar. I won't say any season is bad necessarily, there's at least one line you'll be sorely tempted to shout unprompted at your friends in every episode

I absolutely loved it from s1e1, and despite adoring DeVito was convinced adding him was going to completely ruin the show. Never been so happy to be so wrong.

Frog Act

I also enjoyed it from the first season, and I like the episode where Charlie lies about cancer + the very first episode, where they befriend a black guy to promote the bar. In general though it just isn’t as good as anything that would come later, Dee is especially bland as a foil to the less awful gang. It really ramps up the absurdity and improves in subsequent seasons

Frank goes through a similar process where initially Devito played him in a less ludicrous way but then by the middle of the second season they began to get a sense of the character’s weirdness

I can’t get enough of IASIP, it’s my go to background watch and i think “Mac is a Serial Killer” may be the greatest sitcom episode of all time

because usually, flanderization takes one iconic trait and emphasizes it at the expense of all others, whereas IASIP has just filtered every character's traits down to the ones that are good joke material and exaggerated those

like, every character is still fairly complex, they're just also more idiosyncratic and cartoonish. hell, most of the depth Mac or Charlie have gotten has happened pretty recently.

I think one difference there is that the shallowness of the gang is like an established part of their characterization. They're barely even human beings, so when they display one particular trait to the extreme it feels more natural than it might in other shows where the characters are theoretically supposed to be normal functioning people.

The last season is terrible and is basically just a commercial for DraftKings. The show clearly isn't hiding the fact that they got paid to endorse it and just throw it into every plot line.

IASIP is a show about horrible people who occasionally recognize that they're horrible but never really take any steps to become less horrible. A powerful critique of The American Experience if you ask me.

I've heard it described as a more self-aware Seinfeld and I think in some ways that's pretty accurate.

The comparison is apt, Seinfeld is a show with no growth, no learning a lesson. Jerry and George are literally having the same conversation at the beginning and end of the series. IASIP shares a lot of that but I think the characters do grow and do learn lessons, they just don't have the willpower to actually make progressive, positive growth as people and become less horrible.

Another major difference is that It's Always Sunny goes out of it's way to show how ridiculously damaging these people are to everyone they come into contact with. The path behind them is just completely littered with ruined lives and they barely seem aware of the damage they do.

I always thought the same with The League, especially how it matches every Seinfeld episode’s story structure beat for beat, but the I looked it up and the creator of The League is friends with Larry David and wrote a big chunk of Curb and was the writer/story editor for the last few seasons of Seinfeld.

He claimed he worked at Merrill Lynch in the WTC during 9/11 and narrowly escaped before the building collapsed and that’s why he moved to LA to pursue comedy. A few years later a reporter actually fact checked this and found Merrill Lynch had no record of him ever working for them, that Merrill Lynch’s didn’t have offices in the WTC at the time and that he never actually got any degree in finance.
