There's a cool marionette segment, "The Mill At Calder's End", in the Minutes past Midnight (2016) anthology film that's exactly that. It doesn't have the camp factor of Hammer, it's more of a wistful Edgar Allan Poe horror, but otherwise it's exactly what you're looking for. Just bear in mind the rest of the anthology is nothing like that.

I've been kinda on a 'let's go through Prime and see what kinda dogshit free horror movies there are' kick and so far found a lot of just boring movies and some bad but genuinely heartfelt tries, but then I found this movie from last year Butterfly Kisses and it's shockingly really good? I don't remember any hype at all for this, did I just totally let it fly under my radar or is it some sleeper cool movie? I fuckin hate food footage but this was a really cool use of it.

You don't need to insinuate I watch movies wrong to defend a film you like. I just don't think it's a good narrative and the characters are underwritten. It's rosemary's baby but a lot less coherent and with the main character never even realizing they're being targeted by a satan. Either re-editing or a rewrite could've made the movie a lot better than it is in its current form, at least for my tastes. But I feel this way about.... basically every Rob Zombie film? They all approach something really good and fumble it, usually through bad writing or music video style trippy sequences that completely break the narrative flow. So it might just be that his movie-making style isn't for me. Or maybe he needs to stop writing his own scripts.

I went down a bit of a youtube rabbit hole, watching a bunch of Day Of The Dead BTS documentary clips and analysis (as you do from time-to-time), and it really struck me just how weird and unfortunate it was that Joe Pilato never blew up in a major way. I can't help but wonder how much the lukewarm response to Day (at the time), stifled that. He definitely feels like he could have fit into a character actor rotation alongside guys like Michael Wincott and David Patrick Kelly, but just never found that groove.

There's so many b-movie actors who deserved to be cast in bigger and better things, and even more who just left us too early. And then there's Sam Worthingtons who keep getting big roles and suck harder than it was previously thought possible.

So it might just be that his movie-making style isn't for me. Speaking of ~100 minute movies I (along with three other randos in an otherwise empty theater) watched Crawl yesterday. I feel like it’s the type of movie you wish those direct-to-SyFy movies were. It’s earnest, the effects work, and it’s reasonably entertaining. I don’t think it really stands out though because it’s too preposterous to take totally serious and not preposterous enough to be funny. I think what I disliked the most is how any of the other people that show up are just an excuse for some chomping scenes but they do virtually nothing to change the main characters situation. All those scenes might well have been replaced with a 10 second shot of a lost boat drifting over to the gas station for all the impact it had to the story.
