Why would the ball make that big a difference for contracts overall?

Bigger numbers means players will want more money probably

Presumably if negotiations use historical comparisons as a baseline it'll screw them up.

It's a dumb stat, but Max Fried is tied for the NL lead in wins.

Also, McNeil might have pulled something attempting to run out a grounder in the 9th. Mets returning to pumpkin state.

Is Schilling a borderline HOF case or is he legit being kept out because of his post-retirement chuddery

Schilling is legit a top 30 pitcher ever, while having good narrative reasons because of 1 - the sock and 2 - being part of the renaissance red sox. Especially with top 100 or not even top 150 starters not being put in like whitey ford or JACK MORRIS.

He should 10000% be in but he is an rear end in a top hat. As far as I know he wasn't a cheater though and should end up in the hall.

I think negotiations overall are a lot more dependent on the current labor situation than things like home run rates. Particularly when the nature of this ball change is NOT to increase totals much for the best home run hitters.

Schilling is only eligible for like 3 more years on the BBWAA ballot and his support in that crowd is a lot higher than you guys are thinking. It has nothing to do with politics, he just hasn't gotten in yet cuz of how loaded the classes of this decade have been. Sportswriters are definitely voting him in within 2-3 years, probably as a member of Congress lol

I wouldn't be surprised if Schilling was elected next year since it's basically Jeter and holdovers. Hopefully Larry Walker makes it at least :ohdear:

I do think some of his ballot performance is tied to his personality because Mussina shot right past him a few years back and he obviously has the on field qualifications.

This is overstating it imo, he's definitely not just a victim of the overcrowded ballot. I do think he's likely to get in with a final year push. If he runs and loses a vulgar enough Congressional campaign maybe not. But if he fails on the writers ballot he'll get in easily the first year he comes up on a committee.

His vote totals have been 39, 29, 39, 52, 45, 51, and 61%. He's only gotten more obnoxiously lovely as time has gone on and his support has increased significantly. The BBWAA gives absolutely zero fucks about his or any other player's politics.

I'd bet more people haven't been voting for him due to his win total than his scamming and tweeting.
