I wish I was old enough to be on the pension

I can only dream of the joy I could experience in life if I could drop my kids at school and pick them up, and if I was >65 I could be doing that rather than hating existence while being at work.

gently caress I need a new job / line of work.

i cap at two in one night, anything more and its a gamble the next day. even then thats two maybe every few days or longer

if anything less drinking and being older means more money for better drinks when i do, which is a nice getting older perk

many years ago I worked at a startup that was all young guys out of college and one “old man” that we hired. one of his better quotes was “I’ve got socks older than that girl”.

I am older today than he was at the time. and I’m pretty sure I’ve got articles of clothing that are older than some of my colleagues.

i watched a play last night called father. it left me feeling depressed. ugh i want to know if there is something I can write like a “health will”, so If I ever get diagnosed with dementia, then medical decisions have to follow a certain set of rules : only give me drugs or interventions that reduce the burden of my dementia on others, no drugs that are for the purpose of extending my life like antihypertensives etc. because gently caress knows when you’re no longer considered able to make rational decisions about your own health they just default to tying to extend your life

i don’t want to say people don’t get value out of looking after their partner or parents when they get demented but gently caress I want to do everything I can to never be that person to someone else. it’s bad enough having to be alive while I can actually contribute to society and family (despite depression telling me i’m already a burden, i know i’m not generally and I know some people would prefer my existence to lack thereof), being alive when I would be a burden is the last thing I want in the world.

I'm dealing with a father with Alzheimers Dementia and since he has been diagnosed with that I have been in a complete panic that it may happen to me. There's no history of dementia on either side of the family (except for dad's mum who got dementia due to a misdiagnosed stroke) but there's still that fear, especially since I live alone.

The science around Alzheimer's has taken a pretty sharp turn lately into a much more promising direction, which is good but not really enough. Figuring out if you're genetically susceptible to early onset or the normally ~65y onset Alzheimer's can take at least part of the weight of an unknown future off of your shoulders. For instance, if you're most susceptible to normal onset Alzheimer's, you can schedule your big achievements in life before you're 60, and then you'll still have ~5 years to really flex a heroin addiction or whatever else you've been putting off.

I say this as someone surprisingly susceptible to Alzheimer's due to genetics, and also as someone harboring a latent desire to just go nuts into opioids.
