Good times. I read an annoying thing on r/VoiceActing. Basically Voices.com has 200k users and by the time you submit any job you'll be 200 submissions too late. The sheer number of submissions is brutal. Meanwhile Voice123 has it's platinum members who get several hours head start on all job postings. There was someone in that VA thread claiming to be a V123 plat member who rakes in tens of thousands of dollars through V123. This is on top of their regular VO work. It's mildly disheartening but that's showbiz!

Been itching to practice some character voices. What's everyone's go to source for copy to practice with? I've been grabbing random Alfred lines from the 90's Batman cartoons but I feel like there's probably a better way. I want to put together 8 to 13 distinct characters for a demo that I am planning to get professionally recorded near the middle of this year. Does anyone have any tips for inventing character voices that they could share? Also, any recommendations on recording apps for Android? I need to have something I can record on when I get a character voice idea. Nothing super fancy just good enough to remember the voice so I can replicate it when back home. I've tried a few already and they've all been crap even for just note taking purposes.

Please note from the get-go that this is a collaborative passion project by a small team of horror and animation fans, in which all roles are unpaid. Full information is below. Good luck! CASTING: ANIMATED HORROR SHORT STORYLINE Three friends go out in search of the the grave of the local legend, Isabelle Wakeworth. When Isabelle then comes to life, she relentlessly stalks the three friends and yet more characters one-by-one. CHARACTER We are casting one more character for this film, a Caucasian male in his early 20s. Two important notes: -While this character appears Caucasian in the film, we encourage actors of all ethnicities to read for this role. -Similarly, while the character presents as an early 20s male in the film, we encourage actors of ANY gender identity and age range who can bring life to this character to read for this role. Additional details will be provided to those selected to submit an audition. ADDITIONAL DETAILS Please note that this is an animated short horror film with scenes involving violence, gore, nudity/implied sexual scenarios, and profanity/vulgarity among the (animated) characters in considering whether you would like to participate in this project. Can anyone recommend a good Youtube video/channel about doing a recording setup at home, and which mics are nice? I'm moving soon and will finally have a room to myself for my work, and I'm dying to set up a proper starting setup. I don't mind spending decent-but-not-crazy amounts of money on a decent pre-amp, stand, mic and all that, I just really need some good instructions on how to set everything up and build a good recording environment.

I've been keeping a running doc of some the VO audition scripts that I've recorded over the past year. If you're interested in grabbing some contemporary copy to read check it out. They are all from Voice123 and I'm fairly certain all of the job posters didn't care if auditioners used their auditions in their own samples. King Lou Audition Script Vault Did I book any of them? A few. I got more work from people remembering my voice and coming back to me for something else.

This is pretty exciting. I haven't done a lot of VO in the last couple years, but I did get a call from Hasbro to do something that has been on my bucket list forever: be the voice of a toy! I was the Red Ranger for the new Beast-X UltraZord Power Rangers toy. No idea if its a good toy, but that's definitely me doing the one million catchphrases! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tayGE1G_DOw&t=36s It was a fun job, I had to do a soundalike for an existing actor, which ended up being that kinda surfer-sounding voice you hear there. There weren't a lot of retakes, except when it came to the trademarked phrases like "it's morphin time", where they had very specific notes about timing and inflection. Overall, really fun! And I am a toy, which is as cool as it gets.

Congratulations Lou! Without going too deep into things, I've recently decided to up my overall quality when it comes to my v/o tech, including my first XLR mic, soundboard, laptop, audio program and build either a PVC or full booth in my home. I've used the Blue Yeti and, I'm not sure if anyone else has had a similar problem, but each Blue Yeti would short out between a few months and a year. I've been through 3 mics before I decided that I need to get something that would last longer than a year. After a lengthy hiatus due to a new 9 to 5 job and a nagging cough due to what I recently learned were seasonal allergies, I'm finally making my way to return to building up my professional voice acting career. Right now, due to a lack of equipment, I have nothing to record with. But I'm looking to change that with the big upgrade I have planned. Until then, I'd like to leave a link to some of my earlier work.
