Diamonds is very stupid but it also doesn’t end with literal ninjas, complete with swords and throwing stars, assaulting a secret volcano crater rocket launch base while Sean Connery does Bond things in yellowface.

The wonderful thing about James Bond is that there are actually loads of really good films where he's undercover and never lets on, like Zardoz, Indiana Jones and the last crusade and highlander 2.

the funniest part of Austin Powers as a parody is that despite the movies always playing up how much he's an obnoxious sex pest he's 1000x more respectful to women than james bond ever was

Austin Powers (the first one) is literally a better Bond movie than any of the Craig Bonds, there I said it.

of course I will still see the last Craig one out of grim obligation, but I no longer care about the franchise's future. and everyone saying "maybe Bond shouldn't be a white man anymore" is being an insufferable liberal twit, because the obviously correct statement is "Bond shouldn't be anymore". Bond's primary characteristics are being cool, sexist, and an agent of imperialism. changing the identity of the character doesn't work, because it's not Bond. Bond IS a cis white straight British man. he's sexist, imperialist, a bit racist even. he's a relic and it's time we buried him.

I'm not even going to see the new Craig Bond movie because Spectre was terrible and I'm convinced that Bond movies won't be good anymore until they replace Daniel Craig. I've got nothing against Daniel Craig's portrayal of Bond, but my reading on the history of the franchise suggests to me that the franchise keeps running on fumes until they replace the actor, at which point it briefly gets watchable again (except in the case of Live and Let Die).

I read something somewhere that said that Goldeneye was the only movie in the series that answered the question, "How does the James Bond franchise deal with the all the outdated themes that look bad in retrospect?" Its answer was "who cares, poo poo goes boom," which in the grand scheme of things is still an answer.

James Bond is a dinosaur of a series and it's time to put it to rest, but at its best it's cheesy, dumb as poo poo fun.

Bond movies are basically more of an aesthetic anyway. The Craig ones trying to turn the entire thing into some character study about him is what really drags those movies down. It culminates in the terrible Spectre, but Skyfall and Casino Royal had shades of this as well.

yeah. they are fun bad movies ranging from good bad to bad bad. like i watched goldfinger with a friend and we riffed it the whole. its hosed up and bad on many levels but its a fun movie to just laugh. i thought only the first craig movie was good, the rest were either meh, overated as gently caress or bad. i feel like if you have make a new bond movie, you have to make to weird and retro, like it doesn't work in the whole "modern day ripped from headlines world". i mean gently caress it barely works at all.

Not a Bond guy myself, though I really liked Goldeneye. I just want to say that No Time To Die sounds like a spy parody movie title.

Also, for themes, I am partial to View to a Kill. Mostly because I love 80s poo poo, though I hear the actual movie was dire.
