I can only imagine how much it makes his blood boil to hear people using The Wire to justify Trump's racism and just completely ignoring what the show was actually about. I'm sure he deals with that kind of sentiment on a regular basis anyway but this week is just dialed up to 11.

Re-watching with my gf (for me, anyway, her first time) and got up to season 5. Here are my thoughts on rewatch: 1) Bug in his Batman mask is the most unbearably adorable thing ever 2) Gus is so smart and clever and wise and funny and cool. I wish I was just like him

I don't think I ever heard of The Bosch but goddamn that's a pretty loving strong cast it's got there. Also if you'd asked me if Daniels and Marlo ever had a scene together in The Wire I'd have said,"Of course they did, don't be stupid!" but then I thought about it and realized they never did, Daniels just oversaw the start of the operation against him and was Commissioner when Marlo was arrested, but never had any scenes together with him. That's kind of nuts.

I love living in Baltimore and driving in to work each day to this chud rear end in a top hat Ed Norris spouting off his bullshit about how what Baltimore needs is more drug warrant sweeps and to flood the streets with state troopers. I find Gus kind of irritating tbh. He's a little too smugly cool for my tastes and he doesn't feel as obviously flawed as the rest of the Wire's characters. Probably doesn't help that Scott Templeton is equally one note. Season 5 still has a lot of great stuff to it though. The weakest season of the Wire is better than most shows.

Bosch is a fun show, Titus Welliver is always fun as a grumpy guy. The storylines get a bit out there at times, but the cast is so good that you can overlook some of the dumb poo poo.

Just read the biography of the series with all the interviews, all the pieces matter cleared a lot of fun stories, tons of people had their first acting role on the wire and snoop Pearson was a former murderer discovered by Michael K. The show really turned her life around.

Anybody know what they mean by "number one male?" In context it seems to mean a black guy. Is that because African Americans are the majority of the city? I'm curious about the origin of the term. Do other cities use it? I've never heard it outside the Wire.

This is a show where the racial tensions in the city is a major, reoccurring plot point. Where significant decisions are made where the characters are acutely sensitive of these issues. And you seriously think that the police force, which is 50% black, with a black commissioner, under a black mayor, decided to use a radio code for the black population of 'Black people R crims. LOL'? Rather than assigning the first numeral in a numerical list to the most populous demographic of the city?

Former Baltimore mayor Tommy D'Alesandro died. He was in office during the riots in 1968. That former mayor who told Carcetti about the silver bowls of poo poo might have been based on him. So this site, with a total of 58k hits going by it's myspace era hit counter, covers numerous counties of Maryland and shows a general similarity in how the codes are managed across the state with minor variation. 10-20 is consistently "Give Location" for example while less common orders are varied, though still have some consistencies, like 10-40 which is either "Use Landline" or "Go silent." At no point is there anything about describing suspects which makes sense because these are mostly dispatch codes and not the codes used in active pursuit of a suspect. As far as this is concerned race doesn't even exist which is oddly progressive for a site that looks like it was made 20 years ago. The best this site shows for your argument is that there are some variance in Police codes but even then shows that important subjects are kept consistent. It says nothing about suspects so ultimately says nothing about anything in this discussion.
