I saw evidence and heard first and second-hand anecdotal reports of rampant mismanagement, nepotistic practices, and dishonest marketing plans to keep funding coming in. I confronted Roberts and Ortwin (the in-house lawyer and old friend of Roberts from his movie days) about these problems, but was met with deflecting denials or contradicting counter-claims to the opposite. CIG is at least aware enough of how broken their game is right now that insurance doesn't actually matter cause you can just respawn your ship an unlimited number of times. But in the future once everything is working they'll switch insurance on and you better have it then or you'll be sorry!

From what I'm reading - and this is second hand from the SC subreddit, not direct form CIG - without insurance, if you lose your ship, you'll have to pay an ingame money penalty fee to get it back. If you have insurance you don't. How much this penalty is, no one knows. Some people think it'll be relatively cheap, some think it'll be like 2/3rds the cost of the ship. Regardless, people loving LOVE buying LTI because they assume it's important despite assurances to new players it won't be important.

If you're not fantasizing about players spending 6 years in a single video game, then why on earth would you limit it to 72-months? Just say "unlimited" or "lifetime insurance" Just, god drat these people. Can you imagine if Blizzard tried to sell people 6-year subscriptions to WoW in alpha? (course even that wouldn't be the same, it'd have to be a $900 mount that only lasts 6 years lmao)

Because everybody who cares about SC already owns 20 large ships, nobody's going to want to just be Crewman Bob on someone else's ship. So how do you crew a large ship? Well, we force them to crew other ships after theirs gets blown up! Which means that after spending $900 on a video game space ship, it'll get blown up and you'll be back at square 1 having to swab the poop deck on someone else's $900 ship. Just lmao.
