Like the one good thing SC has done is to be a honeypot for toxic space gamers. Keeps them out of elite :)

Agreed. And the entire crowdfunding model is the perfect smokescreen to hide it in. Gamer nerds are some of the easiest marks to ever walk the face of this planet and provide a renewable financial resource every time that loving idiot gets on stage and waves his stuttering rear end hands.

Well, essentially all of them, for the price of the game. Then you still have to play to unlock them. After all this is a game, not a model viewer.

Pull quote from that old article:

The Article posted:

<we've already established at this point that Gizmondo was a scam run by mobsters and crooked executives, founded by a used car salesman- sound familiar?>
...
And that, theoretically should be that. But the truth is stranger than fiction. Several years later, Chris Roberts would employ a company known as Cubic Motion to do motion capture work on Star Citizen’s single player module, Squadron 42. The CFO of Cubic Motion is Simon Elms, formerly of Warthog games, which was bought by Gizmondo in 2005. Elms also worked with Chris Roberts on Starlancer in 2000. In addition, several other Star Citizen employees worked for both Gizmondo and Roberts. Nick Elms was an Art Director on Starlancer, which Chris Roberts produced. He later went on to work on Gizmondo titles that were never released. Currently, he works for CIG Manchester as a lead on story content in Squadron 42. Star Citizen Executive producer Erin Roberts was the studio manager for Warthog games and continued that role in developing titles for Gizmondo. He has also been a collaborator with Chris Roberts since Wing Commander was released. Derek Senior, formally of Warthog, is now a lead developer on story content since 2013.

But Gizmondo went bankrupt in 2006, what’s the big deal? Well, you might recall that there was some $200 million that went to defunct companies or companies that didn’t exist. In addition to Simon Elms being a financial director for Gizmondo after Warthog studios were acquired, he was also a director of a company called Virtual Poker Limited. The Gizmondo itself was only released with a handful of titles with more that were said to be in development, including casino and poker games. These were never released, nor were any screenshots seen. It is possible Virtual Poker Limited was one of these companies. It gets stranger, since 2006 was not the last gasp of the Gizmondo.

TLDR:
Chris Roberts' brother, lead story director, lead story developer, and the head of the motion capture studio he used to work with were all directly involved at an executive level in one of the most corrupt video game companies ever formed. They almost certainly embezzled money from it.

Actually, this is one of the reasons i'm really hoping SC becomes a good game. Griefers and gankers get annoyed with ED because their targets can always "hide" in PG or solo. SC doesn't have those, and the PvP slider is long forgotten. SC is the perfect feeding ground for such players, and if it does release, some of the most toxic elements of the ED community will migrate there. Some already have.

Let's try this as a thought exercise.

Brother is known to have very shady business dealings and catastrophic failures in the videa game businesses.

Brother is also known to have extremely shady business partners.

Best salary ever for his position in the industry = x.

Brother comes and offers him x 10 that amount PLUS to do the very same job.

Knows game development does not work the way that Brother demands it. Keeps smiling anyway.

Goes in front of the entire world on video with same bullshit talking point non-answers as his brother knowing drat well better. Keeps smiling.

KEEPS SMILING.

Is it just me or did the dev's really tap into some kind of gambling addiction/skinner box cognitive loop hole with this games development?

Like, the real lesson here seems to be that never giving people what they want (and what you've promised them) but instead, continuously feeding them an endless stream of breadcrumbs to said want, is an extremely viable business model.

Dr Kay Ross was Dr Anthony Ross, right? Help me out here, I'm trying to imagine the Star Citizen community's reaction if Jane Crewe or Mary Sue Abent turned up on Inside Star Citizen, and I'm failing.

Maybe they'd be welcoming and non-judgemental?

It wasn't an ELE that wiped out the backer funds. It was Tristan Timothy Taylor.

Interestingly enough I've seen both far left and far right in the CIGverse. Somehow they have reached a homeostasis and don't annihilate each other in a wall of text.

Things that aren't sustainable keep going until they stop. I don't think it's a long term business model (long term being relative, I guess 10 years is a long time for a new game company to be around) but it is successful right now. I suspect the project will have a very rapid wind-down, probably after SQ43 is released (I'm 50/50 on if it ever will).

Snarf is OK, I just think he's misguided (and possibly heavily invested) and has taken on the role of fidei defensor over on the Frontier forums because there are very few other people over there willing to stand up for the game.

Admittedly there are a few souls who will kvetch about the piss taking and wonder why E:D gets cut slack when SC is getting eviscerated, but I think that's more out of orneriness and contrarianism than it is out of deep held convictions about the worth of Crobbler's magnificent octopus.
