BioEnchanted posted:In the first few minutes of Skyfall I was laughing because of the ludicrous opening where James Bond eats a train with an Earth mover. During that chase I was just like "What part of this is espionage? There is no subtlety here, you are wrecking a train in broad daylight with a giant construction vehicle. I think it's safe to say you've blown your cover." Even if not that, even MI6 wouldn't be able to pay bail that big. The first few minutes of a Bond movie are often the only good parts of the movie. Craig's Bond movies have spoiled everyone again into thinking a franchise with a nuclear scientist named Christmas is supposed to make sense. He's too realistic. The next Bond needs to be bananas again like Moonraker.

The only good Bond flicks are Goldeneye and the one where Christopher Walken drops a dude out of a blimp.

Thunderball, Skyfall, and On Her Majesty's Secret Service are the best three sort of serious ones. Live and Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me, and A View to a Kill are the best silly ones.

I enjoyed Never Say Never Again. It wasn't an 'official' Bond movie and could only be made because of a loophole with Thunderball. Connery was supposed to be an old past his prime James Bond, but he was younger than Roger Moore.

Never Say Never Again is a fun, goofy movie. I love the video game battle Bond has with that movie's version of Largo. It's so utterly ridiculous. That movie is much better than Octopussy, which not only borrows heavily from Goldfinger but is completely forgettable.

Moore ended up being the old past his prime James Bond in at least one or two of his last Bond movies. A View to Kill was an embarrassment on his behalf, should have just walked away from that one. Moore was age appropriate as a great-grandpa for that Bond girl, and needed heavy makeup to look like he's LARPing Silvio Berlusconi trying to look like early fifties, let alone "thirty something".

Dragon Ball gets a lot of mileage about how the idea of action heroes having to go through normal everyday activities between adventures has incredible comedy potential, especially taking the piss out of how their personalities are usually hilariously ill-suited for life outside death-defying hijinx, or just intense enough to make them fun to watch doing pretty much anything. Or both.

Or both. I like the episode where Chichi gets Gohan a tutor, and when the tutor insults her parenting style she goes loving ballistic on him. Also when Krillin's girlfriend Maron calls her old and she gets a power-up aura. It can be hard to remember sometimes that when Goku first met her she was a warrior herself, she just settled into housewife.

AceOfFlames posted:Probably both. I love Casino and Skyfall and Craig's bond is by far my favorite, but Spectre... Goddamn did they drop the ball. Quantum was kind of meh, but it also didn't waste such a stellar cast on such dreck. I think it's the only Craig bond film I haven't rewatched. I'm kind of optimistic for the next one with Fukunaga directing and Phoebe Waller-Bridge working on the script.

King Piccolo hocks up a bunch of eggs that hatch into henchmen that don’t appear to be the same species as him, and it’s never explained once we learn he’s a space alien and we visit his home planet. All of them seem to be descended from one guy the same way but don’t exhibit any behavior of being his clone or reincarnation like Piccolo Jr was. Akira Toriyama was bad at and/or uninterested in continuity.

He actively forgets things all the time (completely forgot who Lunch/Launch was after Dragon Ball, at one point he thought Super Saiyan 3 was Super Saiyan 2 and forgot he'd invented a form in-between) but he also explicitly subscribes to the idea that you shouldn't let what you've written in the past keep you from telling the story you're trying to tell.
