The fact that Belzenlok isn’t banned in Momir is proof of their utter contempt for anyone who tries to enjoy themselves.

You also have to spend funbux to enter, so it's extra douchey of them to include cards that read "lol you lose".

But gambling is fun, right? I'm sure someone at the office made a graph that concluded having Belzenlok in the format makes it more fun.

The fact that you can regularly lose instantly for no reason is the entire point of momir.

Yeah but losing instantly because the game dropkicks you in the nuts for spending 6 mana vs your opponent getting a cool dude are two very different things.

I haven't lost any gold on playing arena momir because the people playing it apparently don't do any combat math or are really bad at it.

To me the cost doesn't seem an issue. The worst case is that you pay 200 gold and receive two uncommons, which isn't too bad. And likely you'll get better than that.

The problem is the event is bad. It's funny for like a game and half, then it's just dumb. It really doesn't help that half the creature effects do nothing because they are all tokens and the deck is all lands, so there is never anything in the graveyard, nothing can be returned to hand, nothing can be searched for, etc. It's just an unending pile of misfires.

So I've been playing this for Standard 2020 in addition to a Rakdos Aristocrats deck. It's been a good time, though if you want your games to be super snappy and quick it's not for you. Your opponents won't scoop once you stabilize and turn the game around because they won't realize what's happening at first. And it doesn't kill quickly.

Still, it's a really fun deck to pilot.
code:

//Creatures (25):

2 Izoni, Thousand-Eyed
3 Tithe Taker
3 Orzhov Enforcer
3 Priest of Forgotten Gods
4 Seraph of the Scales

2 Cruel Celebrant
2 Corpse Knight

//Planeswalkers (4):
2 Vraska, Golgari Queen
2 Liliana, Dreadhorde General

//Non-creature Spells (8):

2 Mortify
2 Prison Realm
2 Moldervine Reclamation

People played the paid MTGO Momir event for two reasons:

It had like every creature in the game so you get to play with really random stuff like

Second it cost you 2 tickets (2bux) to play a constructed game or 10 (10bux) to play a 5 game league which is the only way to get rewards for winning. Meanwhile Momir is positive EV so you just gained fake money by playing it a ton. Which you can then proceed to lose 10 bux at a time going 0-5 in a constructed league.

Syr Gwyn really needed to come out when Dominaria was legal.
And then you'd be complaining she's ridiculously overcosted for her abilities. She'd be good as a 4/4 for 1RWB, but as is, she's a six mana commander for a low to the ground voltron tribal deck and that's just innately clunky.

We don't even know how we're getting those cards so it's possibly she'll just never be crafted by anyone, the end.

GimmickMan
Dec 27, 2011

A bunch of streamers couldn't play during the whole week of the MC3 and I can think of a few that had Life Getting In The Way of their treadmill card game gains for another week or two.

At least these last few days of the event are less insufferable. If it works for them, that's good.

what the gently caress

have i been misunderstanding the "protection from" mechanic this entire time or is arena loving with me

it should prevent all damage from the protected source color. in this situation a green creature with trample is blocked by a black creature with protection from green with toughness that would otherwise allow trample damage through. since all damage is prevented, why does any damage trample through?

Works just like indestructible.

Damage is assigned to toughness then tramples over. Works this way because there used to be tons of protection and trample was overpriced back in the day.

Trample doesn't proc based on damage dealt, it procs on damage assigned. The controller assigns lethal damage to the blocker and can choose to assign the rest to you. Whether or not your creature takes the damage is irrelevant, as it happens after damage is assigned.
