Have there been any souls style games that were at least as good as the souls games? They all seem to fall short, missing the magic that from puts into their games.

I’ll probably get this on a steam sale though.

I feel like I enjoyed Nioh more than DS3.

Nioh couldn't hold my attention in the second region, it's a shame.

And if you bounced off Nioh because you couldn’t customize your character, this might be the one for you.

Learning that Nioh 2 has character creation was amazing.

No game ever made is as good as dark souls 3, and that includes all other soulsborne games.

I had some real issues with Butterfly but after taking a break and coming back to it I almost killed it in two tries and in the third attempt I wrecked it.

ds3 is easily the worst of the souls trilogy, lol. even this game is leagues better than it.

I'm finding it a bit easy myself but to be honest, I'm digging the character customisation and ability system. Switching builds on the fly is an amazing idea.

Also, I've mainlined all of the From soft games so I've probably gotten gud. AI partner does a shitload of damage, too.

I read that if you overlevel for an area, you can't master gifts there anymore. Anyone know what the recommended level ranges are for each area?

When they say the story is dark and serious do they mean anime dark and serious like God Eater or slightly overwrought dark and serious like Soul Sacrifice?

It's like Dark Souls mixed with God Eater so far, but I had to stop partway through the tutorial.

The world is basically dying and humanity is almost extinct.

The player is a Revenant, which are like the Undead in DSouls, but they need blood instead of souls. Complete with being created from a human corpse, and reviving a while after being killed (each time they die in-universe, they lose part of their memory) as long as their heart is intact. There was even a project enacted to restore the world, but it went out of control.

In addition to this, I'm curious about how much of the story is delivered through cutscenes and forced dialogues and the like. Being an anime game, I would expect there to be a lot of flashy and over-wrought scenes as well as exposition out the wazoo. Is this the case, or is it Dark Souls in story delivery style as well?

Basically, I'm coming off of Borderlands 3 which stops the action at every possible moment to make you sit through quippy monologues, and I'd like to avoid experiencing that in another game.

There's plenty of cutscenes, it's much more of a story driven game than Souls for better or worse.

The other Revenants in the intro are talking as if humans are basically gone (how hard it is to find actual humans to get blood from), but they might have just meant from this area?

I kind of love the game's whole Ichor/Gift system. Once you learn to mix drains into your combos it becomes apparent that you're supposed to be using Gifts all the time. Makes things a lot more fun and also makes the game stand out from the souls games.
