Movepool matters most, so long as you get some strong attackers of each type to level 35 or so, you're completely golden. If you have enough people to raid, then power up whatever you want, this game has zero strategy to it, or any real kind of meta.

My apartment used to be filled with monsters spawning everywhere from my bed and now nothing spawns at all. Sure love this new spawn point system, Niantic. Very fun. I feel like very little spawns outside of Pokestops at all now, which I guess is more "thematic" but is actually really dull and basically destroys the idea of adventure outside of very dense urban centers.  I didn't even notice there were new quests, including this Zangoose. Trade Pokemon that have a distance of 10k km or more. Glad my girlfriend noticed or I might've missed this one.

Not to like hyper-defend Niantic given the sort of profit margin they're probably pulling in from this game vs. what they could definitely afford to spend more in for customer support, but these specific edge-case issues are the inevitable outcome of working with any sort of massive-scale procedurally generated game (and more reinforces the fact that Niantic needs to come up with a longer-term viable solution for non-urban players, instead of trying to fix hundreds of thousands of individual "this used to be a spawn point and now it isn't" issues).

I had 2 spawns at home before the change, and now I still have 2 spawns but they spawn only 8 minutes apart so I only have to open the game once an hour to catch them both instead of having a 3 minute window where both spawns were active

Of course the world tourism event starts the day I leave Europe. Had 4 open egg spots so figured could at least fill those with some Europe 5km eggs to try and get my remaining regionals...2 2kms and 2 10kms  Found multiple Zangoose, one Volbeat and one Durant so at least had some decent success gathering some regionals

Man I just got home from a week vacation and they really did mess with the spawns, my very rural house no longer has any Pokémon. It’s been 8 hours and nada. Use to be a steady trickle before I left.

I wonder why they didn't overlay the existing spawn points with the new spawns and just call it a day? There would have been no complaints about that. No missing spawns and new spawns, everyone wins.

Kinda a waste when no one in the raid group gets any shinies in about 6 raids. In more fun news, a dude on a local Facebook is showcasing his Tropius from Canada, and say he wants shiny regionals in exchange. Most people have called him out easily. Me, I remember being so loving excited because a dude in our Discord said he had a shiny Horsea for me, from Chicago, and didn't want anything special for it because I am always running raid trains and he appreciated how I did it and made it easy for everyone. Then we met up and he wanted to look over all my shinies and debate me about a legendary or one of my more rare ones because, well, he didn't just want to GIVE away the Pokemon for nothing special. rear end in a top hat.

Can someone give me the lowdown on Shadow Pokemons? Basically, from what I've read up on them, the Return charged attack is pretty mediocre, so I wonder if the 20% stardust and 10% candy discounts they get make up for having to unlock a second attack to get them up to snuff.

Nah, I've done over 300 Rocket stops and have never thought once to use a Shadow mon, just do them for something to do as you run around in circles shiny checking. Or at least, do enough for silver medals, if you care, so that when they put out shadow legendaries, and they probably will, you have 4 extra balls to catch them with.
