Did anyone else order Mizmor's Cairn through the Gilead Media website? If so, have you already gotten your copy shipped? They said it would be sent mid-September and I haven't gotten my preorder yet.

Did you order the CD or the LP? I think Gilead's running a bit behind schedule at the pressing plant for vinyl.

I ordered mine from Deathwish Europe, but that would explain why it hasn't shipped yet.

And joke's on me, I also ordered Yellow Eyes and False at the same time, and they've been out since June or July. It's been a grating wait.

Yeah he's super reliable most of the time so I wouldn't sweat it too much. My Yellow Eyes preorder from Gilead was late but got to me nonetheless.

I ordered the LP. Didn't know if they were having issues or if they hosed my order up. Will reach out to them in October; giving them the full month of September to ship it at least.

They have kind of screwed me over on a shipment before... but I couldn't not get that Cairn LP. Thanks for the feedback.

Hello? Charlemagne?!
They had delays with the Yellow Eyes LP (it was supposed to ship early July and mine got here like mid-August) so that's why I'm thinking they're running behind on their release schedule.

If you're subscribed to his mailing list I would check that to see if he's made an announcement about a delay. That's what he did for Yellow Eyes and then he got pissy people were complaining, which is annoying because I never read those mailers.

Of course he could have just hosed your order up but Gilead's typically very reliable so that's why I'm wondering if it's a broader problem.

If you're gonna have roads, you're gonna have roadkill.
I got in on the Gilead Media vinyl subscription (which turned out to be a hell of a deal: False, Yellow Eyes, Mizmor, Krallice re-issues, plus other stuff) and dude has been pretty great about keeping people up to date. In addition to the aforementioned pressing issues, I think there have been health problems in his family that have caused delays.

I'm only about halfway through it but I think you're absolutely right. It's hooked me in a way none of the other BaN albums have, and may already be one of my favorites of the year.

edit-- also if anyone can recommend similarly trippy melodic black metal, I'm all for it.

Agreed. I've also been enjoying the new Deathspell Omega album that dropped back earlier this spring in a similar fashion.

The new Blut Aus Nord sure is a hell of a thing. There are some similarities to past stuff here and there (the higher register guitar parts overlaying most of the songs is kind of a staple of theirs) but some of this poo poo almost sounds like a different band entirely. That upbeat riff in the first half of Nebeleste, for example - where did that come from?

I feel like I'd be put off by this if it weren't So. God. drat. Good.

It's an absolute lock for top 10 of the year in what's been a very strong year.

False, Misthyrming, Batushka (the good one), Saor. Immortal Bird if you count blackened death.

One that I really loved that's overlooked is the Saqra's Cult album.

I also like An Oblivion Above by Together to the Stars and the new Numenorean, but those are black-adjacent at best. I'm really out of the loop on BM too these days - I just don't listen to it as much as I did like 10-15 years ago and a lot of those bands don't even do black metal anymore (Enslaved being a good example)

The new Obsequiae track has me really looking forward to the whole album, though.

That Departure Chandelier album NWN! put out earlier this year is maybe my favorite album of the year.

Some other cool black metal bands that released good stuff so far this year: Sanguine Eagle, Psychic Circle, Vanum, Imperial Cult, Mizmor, Seidr, and Voemmr.

Was listening to Cantique Lépreux - Paysages Polaires earlier. Definitely one of my favorites from last year. It’s weird how I either absolutely love that sound or get completely bored of it. Not sure what it is but the quality bands are 10/10.

I wouldn't beat yourself up. I think it's lame that he gets pissy when someone emails him about a delayed record and refers them to a newsletter or news section that people clearly aren't reading. He did the same thing with the Yellow Eyes record. Clearly people aren't reading that poo poo so he should take a few minutes to send a mass email to people who ordered it or something instead of getting repeatedly annoyed.
