i have no idea what people see in ship combat. Like, big slowass turning circles where you strafe shots at eachother that reload too slowly, c'mon it completely sucks.

Shooting the ship is just something you do before you get within ramming distance. But if the game has no ramming/boarding then yeah it sucks

though i am not a fan of the "real-time VATS" in Outer Worlds or Fallout 4. i was always a VATS whore in New Vegas and i didn't really play the game like a shooter. forcing me to play the game like a shooter instead of an RPG is kind of frustrating

Gameplay videos have me kinda feeling the same thing. I'd love a new Fallout but the Outer Worlds combat just looks like Borderlands in that I'm shooting at giant bullet-sponge monsters. I imagine I'll play it eventually but I'm not really in a rush.

It's really bland and empty, like they had too abandon a lot of world building and detail to get it shipped with the main story intact. There are like 6 weapons in the game, and progression is mk1, mk2 etc with the same models. Armor is worse. And there's pretty much nothing to explore or discover in the world outside of locations where a quest from a town will lead you. It's like new Vegas if you stripped out most of the gear and almost every quest/location that wasn't required for a main/faction quest

I'm glad outer worlds is apparently meh/forgettable because there's already a much better game that uses those initials (outer wilds) and I'm also playing Overwatch again so people talking about OW is just confusing

I am enjoying the game. I just picked up a flamethrower and burned an angry alien dog Unfortunately I also accidentally did a crime in Groundbreaker which turned everyone hostile so the entire station started shooting at me. Right now I'm contemplating just murdering all of Groundbreaker to see what happens

I dont know how much actual gameplay time is in Outer Worlds if you do everything efficiently and just rip through it but its very pretty and the variety of weapons is good enough that I'm still just having fun running around plugging the living poo poo out of everything, talking to interesting people and not bothering to look at my quest log at all. I hated the Witcher 3 so my opinions on what makes a good RPG are fuckin worthless obviously but i'm having a good time and I like it.

A depressing amount of people power game through everything and it ruins lots of games. Like, looking up guides on how to build a character, skipping conversations/cutscenes, trying to complete quests as fast as humanly possible. Doing any of these things at all in any RPG will just ruin it. Sometimes it's fun to roll a big dumb drug addict. I liked to play F:NV as a big dumb idiot that always did all the drugs I found the minute I found them and it was really cool! Much funner than my stealth sniper playthrough that's for sure. If you don't like reading, don't ever play a story-based game because let's be real they never have very great gameplay.
