I swear I can remember reading a post on some gawker site about how they realized he was being funded when he kept the trial going for a long time beyond what they'd expect of his financial situation but I can't find it so maybe I made it up in my head.

They've also been rather noticeably sticking to sports lately, after some (mediocre) attempts at political content early on. I'm hoping there's not a general blackball situation going on. Here's probably a stupid question: why didn't they go on strike?

No one else really writes about sports media for them. Someone named Justin Charity seems to write articles about politics and someone else writes about tech but that's the closest they get to incisive criticism that extends beyond ranking things or asking if something is overrated. Brian Phillips probably has something interesting to say about this (as he is an OG blog boy) but he's probably busy writing about The Watchmen and our collective unconscious.
