The first chapter of the new official manga is out, along with its full title: Touhou Chireikiden (not the same kanji as Chireiden but intentionally similar) Irregular Detective Satori https://touhougarakuta.com/comic/touhouchireikiden_1 The art is kinda amateurish but it'll be interesting to see how ZUN shows off his love for mystery novels.

That was my first thought but then I saw she seems to actively go out of the way to read minds, not to mention her title has "armchair detective" in it. Still, I admit I might be reading too much into all that. And yeah, the wing hats are hilarious.

I really like what ZUN did with the animal realm and Wily Beasts' story in general, it's cool to read his own thoughts on them. There's some fun ideas in there. Also i'm excited to see the Eagle Yakuza in the new game.

Yeah, it's really interesting reading all his thoughts in both the broader story and the ideas he had going into each stage and personalities. The terrible Yakuza dystopia of the animal realm is wholly unconnected to Gensokyo. The cruel philosophies of the ruthless Yakuza goasts and cyberpunk overlords that reside there do not reflect the attitudes of Gensokyo.

I have a weird line of topic. I was thinking back on my relationship with Touhou, and I realized that Touhou was probably the first media thing I got into that ways gay as gently caress. ZUN probably doesn't intend it, but the entire Touhou community seems to just completely accept that every character is gay, and that's cool. In a weird way, Touhou may have formed a basis for me to be more comfortable with homosexuality and my own bisexuality. And it's dumb as gently caress and and the gay stuff is often problematic at best, but growing up in a conservative community in the 2000's, Touhou was helpful, and I kind of think that's neat.

its a pretty common refrain. for ref zun didnt intend it but not because he thinks theyre all straight, he just isnt comfortable writing anything romantic so the orientation of his characters isnt something he ever really considered.

The sealing club stories are pretty gay imo. Like, intentionally so. I mean Zun doesn't write romances but there's still stuff like Kanako and Suwako just basically being written as Sanae's mums. And I don't think that's an accident or anything.
