Hiring people you're loving is an extremely bad look.

Yeah, there's a reason it's a disciplinary-worthy offense / ethics violation in basically every company to have a romantic relationship, sexual or otherwise, with a direct subordinate, because it is a complete disruption of the power dynamic. You don't sleep with the people who work for you, plain and simple. Even some of the scummiest companies in the world like Uber eventually figured that poo poo out.

LoL Stephen Miller is getting married to Mike Pence’s personal aide and no one on Earth gives a poo poo, the only reason she resigned was because she knew the revenge porn would be submitted for evidence and people are up in arms because she’s a women and it’s a non-traditional relationship. The “bad look” thing is hot dogshit, what Californian gives a poo poo if she gave her little girlfriend a staff job handing out flyers and making phone calls?

This whole “I better set a good example” thing keeps burying dems for literally zero gain. I just feel bad for her, I knew people canvassing for her and she sounded like she cared about her community.

Presumably because Miller and Pence's aide don't have a direct report relationship.

Fraternizing within the same organization is one thing. Fraternizing within the same chain of command or reporting structure, different story.

Neither is great, but there's a huge difference between loving someone you hired and hiring someone you gently caress.

Oh yeah, remember how we all thought trying to impeach the President for loving a 22 year old White House intern was blowing it completely out of proportion?

You seriously cannot maintain this position when you say three posts up that Stephen Miller being a Chief White House strategist doesn’t conflict with proposing marriage to a White House Aide. That’s ridiculous.

You're grossly underestimating, or deliberately misrepresenting, the size and complexity of the White House bureaucracy. She's on the staff of the VP, an entirely different group to him. There is no reason, let alone proof, to think that this woman is not simply exercising her agency.

Constantly crying wolf is counter-productive, and does nothing but stop people taking you seriously.

Yeah and also this current Administration is literally wall-to-wall nepotism as well. Jared Kushner’s resume literally begins with “my dad did similar crimes to the President” and ends with “I smash the president’s daughter” and he’s a senior aide to the POTUS.

The Republicans figured out that if they just do a bad thing and power through it that there aren't any real consequences. It doesn't necessarily mean that the Democrats/the left shouldn't still try to hold themselves to a higher standard. Even if the Katie Hill case is on the lower end of the scale.

I did fall asleep reading a particularly erotic chapter
in my grandmother's journal.

She wrote very detailed descriptions of her experiences...
Somebody finally asked the writers of the Weinstein-produced Scream 3 for the record if they had any idea how prescient they were being about that film's premise (the whole plot is set into motion by a rapist film producer and in general is based around the sleazy behind-the-scenes Hollywood industry rape culture - even the killer is named after Roman Polanski).

Their answer; not really.

quote:

Twisting itself around this convoluted narrative is the fact that Harvey Weinstein executive-produced the movie and appears to have been fine with his brother, Bob, who tended to be the one most involved with Dimension productions, bringing a horror film with this very telling storyline into theaters. Kruger says that while Weinstein never explicitly came up as a source of inspiration during the film’s creation, that kind of imperious disregard was a major point of reference for Scream 3’s John Milton.

quote:

Lussier remembered that the Milton character’s “reckless approach to innocence” was very much in line with how Wes Craven saw the industry in general. “In Wes’ mind, this was very much how this city works,” he said. “We will eat into our young. Things that you thought you could get away with because you live in a protected climate of power and money.”

quote:

What about the final bloodbath of retribution, where the big-shot producer and predator has his throat slit in his own lavish home screening room? When I asked Kruger if there were critical executive or studio notes on the Milton character, or what happens to him, his answer was a flat “Nope. Everyone liked that plot.”

https://slate.com/culture/2019/10/scream-3-harvey-weinstein-producer-character.amp

The article doesn't mention that Rose McGowan, one of Weinstein's most ardent and public accusers, was one of the stars of Scream, which makes the whole thing even more curious.

Journalist and former TV personality Mark Halperin's comeback tour out of the sex pest dungeon is not going well.

quote:

The new book by former NBC senior political analyst Mark Halperin, “How to Beat Trump,” sold just 502 copies in its first week — and his publisher is blaming “cancel culture.”

It has been two years since Halperin was accused of sexual harassment and physical assault by multiple women when he worked at ABC News between 1994 and 2006. When the women came forward, Halperin quickly lost TV jobs with MSNBC, NBC and Showtime.

The commentator issued a statement at the time apologizing for his actions. “I’m going to take a step back from my day-to-day work while I properly deal with this situation,” Halperin said in the statement. He has since made several appearances on Sirius XM radio with CNN contributor Michael Smerconish.

“I wasn’t a perfect person when I made these mistakes,” Halperin said in one interview. “I’m not a perfect person now. I’m happy to be judged by perfect people.”

When his deal was announced for “How to Beat Trump: America’s Top Political Strategists on What It Will Take,” the women who accused Halperin criticized the book, and several top Democratic strategists who were quoted in it — including Barack Obama’s senior adviser David Axelrod and strategist and Fox News contributor Donna Brazile — were forced to explain their participation.

Halperin’s book was published Oct. 29 and sold 502 copies, according to the Associated Press, which reported the sales based on analysis from NPD BookScan. The organization tracks about 85 percent of print sales, according to AP.

Earlier this fall, Halperin’s publisher, Judith Regan, defended her choice to give his project a platform, and she did so again this week.

After a recent book talk with Halperin in Los Angeles, Regan told Page Six that she “didn’t approve of what he did.”

“But I always have compassion,” she told Page Six. “He’s tried to become a better person. He had a right to write it, and I have a right to publish it. … He really has changed.”

The book talk was a “private, off-the-record event with major songwriters” and “big CEOs,” Regan told Page Six. “A well-known politico asked a lot of questions about the #MeToo stuff,” Regan said. “[Halperin] answered to everyone’s satisfaction.”

Regan also lambasted what she called “cancel culture.”

‘I don’t want to sit on your lap,’ she thought. But, she alleges, Mark Halperin insisted.

“In this guilty-until-proven-innocent cancel culture, where everyone is condemned to death or to a lifetime of unemployment based on an accusation that’s 12 years old, is criminal,” Regan told Page Six.

Halperin’s previous book “Game Change,” which he co-wrote, was a bestseller that chronicled the 2008 presidential campaign and was eventually made into an HBO movie. HBO was planning to adapt “Game Change” into a miniseries but canceled those plans after accusations against Halperin surfaced.

The Washington Post’s Paul Farhi spoke with nine women in October 2017 who said they were aware of, or had directly experienced, unwanted contact by Halperin over a period dating from the mid-1990s. The alleged behavior included unwanted touching, inappropriate late-night phone calls and aggressive, repeated sexual propositioning.

they were objectively innovative for the American mediascape and the classics featured groundbreaking photography from Gordon Willis. I'm glad I'm not a historian who has to sift through their implications in a contemporary context because it's pretty difficult to gloss over their impact on filmmakers on a global scale
