After the shitshow that was getting tickets for Eric Prydz HOLO the weekend before NYE in NYC, he’s coming to DC to play Echostage for actual NYE. I’ve never been to any show for NYE, in part because I have FOMO about bar hopping shenanigans, but I guess we’re going to see him twice in 5 days this time.

Dude?
Ok so this is from before EDM was called EDM but maybe some of you can help me out here. This album cover has always stuck out to me as very cool looking and unique but I have no idea what the picture actually is. Is it a melted record? Is it chocolate? Is it some sort of hash/weed derivative?

Also the album is really good

WE WILL CONTROL
ALL THAT YOU SEE
AND HEAR
Datsik, AKA The Most Punchable Face in EDM, resurfaced the other day with a video explaining his long absence from the scene following some scathing allegations of sexual assault against him. The video is a seven-minute exercise in self-indulgence, shot in his expensive studio, with nary an apology to be heard.

This whole fiasco has shown the lovely duality of the EDM scene: While there are still loads of Brock Turner-lookin' neon rapemutants defending him, tossing out tired whataboutisms and whining about 'cancel culture', it seems the larger consensus among the EDM scene is that we're having none of this poo poo. It remains to be seen whether this soft-penis non-apology works out for him and he gets some bookings from money-hungry festival organizers, or he will fade back into obscurity and return to the Kelowna ketamine puddle from which he spawned, like he deserves.

Reminder: Troy is one half of Ephwurd as well (the other half being Bais Haus or something?). I'm told that since the allegations, the duo have split but it's something to keep in mind.

This is a vibe. Kinda reminds me of Stealing Time on Above & Beyond's first album. Maybe they're still making stuff like that. Idk. They're one of those bands that I liked a lot, kinda lost track of and now they have so much goddamn material that I don't have any idea how to get back into them.

Im an Anjuna/A&B stan and Id say start with their post-Common Ground singles. Common Grounds their most recent album and its pretty standard cheesy big trance but theyve started to gear back towards a better sound IMO.

This is my friend Spencer Browns collab with them. First collab they did in 8 years and probably one of their best songs.

I was almost gunna go to that show! I live in NY and my brother lives in DC so I go down there all the time to see shows.

Had a bunch of friends from the Anjunafamily groups that were there and it looked like a blast.

Im seeing Andrew Bayer next week and Im SO stoked. His new Parallels EP is really great. The end of this track is amazing.
https://soundcloud.com/anjunabeats/andrew-bayer-voltage-control

Hes hands down one of the most talented electronic producer around. His versatility blows my mind when he puts out an EP like Parallels out after stuff like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhxC7N97XwI

And then remixes that track to be an absolute banger(among all the others from this album)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqpCKb1WwBc

He is also essentially the 4th member of A&B as he is credited as the 4th writer on a ton of their new tracks.

A&B played a couple Bayer songs and gave him shout outs during the show. I haven’t seen Bayer live nor am I too familiar with his style of music but for $20 at Souncheck next Friday, I might as well go?

For the longest time I confused Andrew Bayer with Adam Beyer. :downs:

Id absolutely go, thats a great venue for him, I was there for Ilan Bluestone(was shooting the show) and Spencer Brown and was really impressed with it. Its right by my brothers bar(Columbia Room) too so I try to catch shows there whenever I can cuz its always a fun night.

His style is hard to lock down, hes usually "trance" but his last album In My Last Life is anything but. Its basically trance inspired 80s pop music, right down to major Kate Bush influences.

I’m industry adjacent so I know Columbia Room all too well... but is your brother is Derek Brown? :psyduck:

I listened to Bayer’s ABGT300 set on YouTube and Parallels. I like his instrumental stuff, especially Parallels (a lot of it sounds like it could be Cirez D) but the vocal stuff from ABGT300 I’m meh on.

Omg okay so I moved to DC a year and a half ago, and being a cocktail person, I of course went to Columbia Room my first weekend out. Tom was bartending so I asked him to make me a Toronto variation.
