It hit Burger King a couple of weeks before Popeyes emptied both barrels with the chicken sandwich, so I've been trying to stay away from it all. I try to avoid BK as a general rule anyway. The closest thing to a point that I was making was that widespread availability doesn't mean something is good or here to stay. Since the thing has as many calories as a regular whopper it's unlikely I'll specifically buy it. If it were at a comparable price point in the store I'd probably give it a shot, but I haven't seen it on shelves yet (I know they're not making it available everywhere). I have no strong feelings on it one way or another...if I can't taste a difference I'll probably buy whatever's cheaper. I got the Impossible Whopper the other day while I had a long drive. Pretty drat good and frankly if we can start mainstreaming a meatless diet then I’m all for it at every fast food restaurant.

I just watched both episodes of The Mandalorian, my only complaint is that the episodes are too short. But speaking of Star Wars, I was checking out the Ultra HD section on Disney+ and how the gently caress am I watching The Empire Strikes back, a 40 year old movie in 4k/Ultra HD? Is that just how movies were recorded even way back when just technology couldn't display it until recently? Like I'm noticing the stitching and poo poo on Luke Skywalkers costume, something I never would have noticed without 4k.

Old school film is extremely high resolution compared to video or most digital recording. Super35 was found to be roughly 3.5k, for example. Where it gets interesting is that even though the negative is that high, once it's copied onto projection film it loses a lot...normal film projectors 15 or so years ago (around the time they started getting replaced by digital) were capable of showing about 2k resolution at best, and that may or may not be undermining the actual film's quality. It's a deep rabbit hold to go down...everything from film stock to transfer methods (even digital transfers) to projection equipment and how the film is physically handled has an impact on how it looks in the end.

Yeah I’m really enjoying The Mandalorian so far. The show is gorgeous and I like seeing little bits and pieces of the broader universe coming into focus like the Ughnaught character, also the Kowakian Monkey Lizard looking at its counterpart roasting on a spit, the Jawas punking the Mandalorian. This is doing a better job of capturing the whimsy and wonder of the Star Wars universe than Solo did.
