Pigsfeet on Rye posted:Nothing quite like doing FOD walkdown on the flight deck (or moving on the flight deck at night) and walking headfirst into a missile fin. Wear your cranials! My dad worked on oil rigs for a bit and his worst thing to walk into was the wrong side of a temporary barrier, looking at the other side and seeing it was someone x-raying a weld. He'd gone for a wander round the rig and someone had only erected the barriers on one side and he'd just wandered in from the other side. I grew up beside a major oil refinery and chemical plant so we got shown all sorts of health and safety videos, largely intended to keep us out of the plant, and the one about the guy who picked up the radioactive pellet has stayed with me.

Rio Tinto investigates after employee crushes own work ute with haul truckquote:It is understood the driver of the light vehicle was performing maintenance on the haul truck on the morning of 21 November, at the Brockman 4 iron ore mine near Tom Price, when he ran over his own vehicle. That probably won't buff out. Looking at it though, that driver's side door is pretty OK. They should make a nice little plaque for it with these photos and mount it on the wall of the workshop for posterity. Memento fucked around with this message at 12:58 on Nov 22, 2019 |

That second photo definitely looks like the truck is posing with one foot on its victim's body.

It's like the suit jacketed acetylene tank at my local welding supply shop. They don't put a suit jacket on it, it just looks like a suit jacket because it peeled open when the tank failed. I'll have to get a picture the next time I'm there. There's a sign on it that says "This is why your tank must be within inspection date."

CannonFodder posted:It's OSHA as gently caress because side windows are not windshields. Windshields are supposed to have objects bounce off like that and maintain integrity to protect the driver and passengers from objects flying into the cabin from the road. Windows are supposed to shatter into tiny non-sharp pieces so people can exit the vehicle quickly if the doors don't work for whatever reason. As far as I can tell with Tesla's history of their cars catching fire the intention of this car is to trap people inside it then cremate them.

It's to give firefighters ptsd as they frantically bash at the window in a desperate bid to save the person burning inside.

"Hello? Fire department? I am in a Tesla truck and I blew a tire and I landed in a lake. The water is quickly rising, and the electronic doors won't open and the windows won't go down. I have bullet proof glass, what do I do? ... OK, cool, see you in 5-8 minutes."

Better to kill them than to maim them from a financial standpoint

Am I missing something with that truck? I've never once expected my truck to survive a bowling ball impact on the side or rear window.

Unclear why they decided bulletproof windows were a necessary feature of a pickup truck.

Bulletproof windows is just a marketing gimmick to appeal to the tech bros who worry that the proles will rise up and devour them when the world crashes and burn. Basically selling to their fantasy.

Yeah, even the rudimentary training I got in forklift driving when I was 18 that one summer I worked at the paper mill emphasized that you _always_ back up the forklift. If you didn't, you'd get disciplined. They didn't train us a lot, but they did train us, and there were consequences for doing unsafe stuff.
