The curious case of the missing duck For those unaware, Mallard Fillmore hasn’t posted a new comic in about two months. It’s pretty noticeable given the absolute lack of commentary on impeachment, but I think some strips have had the year quietly changed to 2019. So...what the gently caress happened? Here’s the thing about Mallard Fillmore: I cannot overstate just how little a gently caress people give about this comic. He has two pages on facebook, they don’t crack 150 combined members, and one hasn’t updated since Obama’s first term. The other has no posts. This may explain why the Mallard Fillmore website, which had daily strips and an impressive archive alongside blog posts from Tinsley when he felt like doing extra (spoiler he didn’t), is gone and the url just redirects to ducky’s daily strip on a general site for cartoons. Also it should not be surprising that Mr. Eighty-Hours-Of-Research-A-Week doesn’t keep up on social media, and his Twitter hasn’t updated since March this year. I’m saying this to emphasize the difficulty researching this subject, because Mallard Fillmore is a lot like that sketchy roommate you had for a year or two after college. If it died, practically nobody would notice. The best I can come up with is backlash from a comic done last August. This one: It got the San Diego Union-Tribune to drop the strip later that month, the editor saying he hadn’t seen a response like this in the past five years. So, from what little I can glean, it’s possible other papers got a similar response, and Tinsley’s syndicate has put the brakes on the comic while they figure out what to do next. Thus, the reruns. This is all speculation, of course, but Tinsley up and taking a two month sabbatical during one of the biggest events of Trump’s presidency seems unlikely. Especially since his job has absolutely zero effort behind it and I imagine he would take great relish in being able to recycle the same joke about Biden and Schiff every day. So, it’s possible that Mallard Fillmore may be dead, and come January it’ll be gone entirely. Or maybe they put him on bog standard sensitivity training and he’ll be back ready to hurl venom about that. I know that’s a lot of words to result in no concrete answer, but it’s the day before Thanksgiving and I am very bored. We’ll see what happens.

I like how, while he's in time out for sensitivity, the syndicate continues to run some of Tinsley's patented "race relations as animal metaphors where people of color are represented by savage predators" comics

Wait, Drunky Duck is in reruns? Is this thread the only people who pay enough attention to that dumb strip to even notice?

I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case. That Omar strip is insanely bad out of context, and to get the context you have to be pretty well immersed in the right wing alternate universe, and even then it's still extremely bad.

Does anyone have (or even remember) the JR Rose! cartoon about the closing of a local Shoney's, and it's just the Shoney's bear crying while holding a newspaper? I've tried looking for it but Rose's political cartoons don't seem to be archived in any useful way.

I thought this was a terrible cartoon back when I couldn't make sense of it and thought they were saying that Burisma deserves to be as big a scandal as <Trump is Alive>. And dammit, I think this is a terrible cartoon now that I understand that it's making some dissimilar point.
