We gazed into the eyes of madness... And all we found was horny.

For 200 years you’ve been asking: Who is Dominic Deegan? This is Dominic Deegan speaking.

This sounds mildly interesting, to me, the reader, but there's still absolutely no reason for the main character to give a gently caress.

I got it! Ink witch was delivering her kids homework to magic school. The letters are big because the kid's still learning how to write.

So, wait, he found all of the pieces of the message now, right?

So what the gently caress is he supposed to do now?

Why this much effort to collect such minimal information? I mean, why couldn't the owner of the pages just write new pages with that small an amount of info.

There's only three pieces of information thaty're actually specific: Dominic Deagan's name, the fact that this happened 200 years ago (useless without a date on the page and even then super easy to remember) and the name Astinopath (which is so vaguely described that its useless without other supporting information).

Could this really not be remembered with a modicum of effort? Is this a memento situation?

I would edit a page with "Don't Believe His Lies" or something but :effort:

Okay I'm drat sure The End of Prophecy is supposed to be a big dramatic thing and it'll turn out not to mean what they wanted us to think it meant, like Mookie's trying to do a Mystery Box. But yeah, this is like something you'd hint at in page 1 of your epic fantasy saga, some enigmatic quotation that'll come to make more sense later.

It has taken us months to get here.

Just thinking back on it, is 'Asinotaph' meant to be a sound-alike for 'a cenotaph'?

I'd comment on the rest of this comic but jesus christ what a waste of time everything in this arc has been so far.

Apart from his house being blown up in front of him. That owned.

Any other writer I’d buy this. Mookie? Nah. He’s only ever pulled from the “Throw random vowels and consonants together” well of fantasy writing, and from what we just learned of Asinotaph (I’m willing to bet what we know now is all it’ll ever be) it doesn’t have anything in common with a cenotaph.

Tesseraction

On the other hand Mookie loves shoehorning in lovely puns and getting the purpose of a cenotaph wrong would be 100% on brand.

Roll on two more days where we've learned nothing new.

Otoh there’s a Bolt Thrower album called Cenotaph and he would absolutely shoehorn that in in the name of :rock: metal :rock:

OK then, see you in February, there might be a plot point by then.

Well....at least it was consistent. We all were constantly asking what possible reason Snout could have to gather the pages. We wondered that it could not possibly be worthwhile or relavent.

And everyone was correct.

Synthbuttrange

You'd think he had more pressing concerns. A half-dead woman turns up on his doorstep. His house is blown up and the woman is abducted. Thats usually where a protagonist would drop everything and follow that call to adventure.

Instead he just forgets about it and looks for more paper.

I mean he is following a call to adventure, one that took the form of a loving page telling him "yeah the INK WITCH wants me to find those papers pls help?" and one that is probably the witch herself. The fact that you don't remember it speaks volumes about how engaging that particular plot device has been.

I still say the ink and the witch shouldn't be the same entity, because otherwise this story is about her telling Snout to piece together something it seems like she should already know. I mean, I assume it was her bag lying next to her that the pages were blowing out of back on the first page.

They had a kid in the end but it was left ambiguous if they adopted.

A dwarf's fist made Dominic infertile and with Luna it was either a dragon or when she gave her reproductive energy to revitalize Maltak :negative:

I never reread Deegan, but if I remember right, Luna indeed revitalized the orcs’ homeland by sacrificing her womb because she was an awkward cross between The Chosen One and White Man’s Burden.

Well ain't that a blast from the past.

If you're gonna make any sense of those threads you need to fix the broken Waffleimages links, so I made a quick greasemonkey script to fix them. I think the awful app already does something like this.

JavaScript code:
// ==UserScript==
// @name     WaffleImages Fixer
// @version  1
//
// @include [url]https://forums.somethingawful.com/*[/url]
// ==/UserScript==

function getNewUrl(url) {
  var match = url.match(/http:\/\/img\.waffleimages\.com\/([0-9a-fA-F]+)\/.+\.([a-zA-Z]+)/);
  if (match) {
    var hash = match[1];
    var extension = match[2].substring(0, 3).toLowerCase();
    return `[url]https://randomwaffle.gbs.fm/images/[/url]${hash.substring(0, 2)}/${hash}.${extension}`;
  } else {
    return url
  }
}

document.querySelectorAll('img[src^="http://img.waffleimages.com"]').forEach((elem) => {
  elem.src = getNewUrl(elem.src);
});

document.querySelectorAll('[href^="http://img.waffleimages.com"]').forEach((elem) => {
  elem.href = getNewUrl(elem.href);
});

Decided to go back and look at those old threads with this script and it looks like the first one may actually be so old that the images are just unable to be salvaged at all this way.
