Yeah for a lot of people it’s more anti-Chinese sentiment than anything else, since those same people probably dislike kids doing school walk outs to protest lack of any kind of response to school shootings.

The whole idea that if something is on TV then it must be true. The glowing God box cannot lie! Despite the honest opening statement that invalidates everything that follows you know tons of boomers were going after seeing this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ts0XG6qDIco When telling anecdotes there's a high chance that suspected ethnicity will be used to describe people in said stories and often times it's not relevant to the story at all. Instead of, "That rear end in a top hat cut me off" it becomes something like, "That Italian rear end in a top hat cut me off". It's a fun window into their psyche and its very racist tendencies. Also Italian is always pronounced with an incredibly hard I (EYE-talian), Arab with a cinder block A (AY-rab), and all Asians become "Oriental". Also the inability to understand how compliments can be racist too. They tend to get really mad when this is explained to them.

As someone who works with engineers this is very frustrating, but it's because unlike other science fields you don't need to have your poo poo peer reviewed. Basically you can just build a thing, and if it doesn't work, you can build it again and again until it works. Not to mention if it's a smaller company that poo poo is built on sight and the fabricators tend to be pretty chuddy. There's one guy in my shop who decided wearing a safety yellow shirt with "I work harder than ugly strippers" in bold black lettering was a fantastic idea, he has similar ideas at least once a week.

My mom was an engineer (now retired), according to her, one of the biggest issues is a lot of engineers come out of engineering schools where they don't have to take any courses in the humanities and instead just learn how to beep boop exclusively. So they come out of school as human calculators, get well paying jobs right out of school, and think they have all of life figured out. Anyone who doesn't do what they did is just too lazy or too stupid to care about. She also told me one time about overhearing two of her younger white male coworkers having a conversation on how it wouldn't have made sense for slave owners in the South to mistreat/abuse their slaves because they'd naturally want to keep their property in top condition. This was around 2017, in Indiana. So yeah... beep boop.

Yeah, there's a reason the engineering school I went to made you spend a third of your degree in the humanities. You can't fix everyone, but it certainly helped to turn out a bunch of really cool teachers every year.

The very first time I realized my dad was starting to drink the flavor-aid was when I went to the mall with him once (it was extremely busy) and he dropped slurs, some pretty loving nasty ones, LOUDLY and in public. I was ASHAMED to be seen with him, because I KNOW he knows better. I couldn't leave him there because I was like 14 and there by myself with him. While he certainly wasn't abusive (emotionally or physically) when someone drops that poo poo in public, you don't know HOW they're going to react if you call them on it, especially when you're a teenage girl. I have to monitor my conversation with my dad (who is on the Boomer-X cusp) carefully to avoid any political topics. It's an interesting dance when you're a queer woman in a transbian relationship. I have never been more grateful he doesn't care for facebook.
