This loving year.

A week ago, Submerged sent me a photo of a set of discarded UFC gloves in the middle of the Octagon and the caption, "Submerged 1998-2019," so I dunno what to make of that yet.

A major bummer for sure, but I'm not surprised. The open letter is... accurate. They've done just about everything they can as Noisia. And if I'm being brutally honest, the last couple of times I've seen them live have not been entirely impressive - maybe it's the Ableton setup, maybe it's the 'North American audiences don't want heavy dubplate rinsing they just want hits' curse, I dunno. I'm happy for the Noisia tunes we already have and excited to hear from their members' other projects.

XPost from the ML DJ Mix Thread:

I'll be going live with some Drum & Bass and Jungle on The TDotLove stream tonight from 8-10PM Eastern time. My music library is cleared of all backlog so I've got some fresh artillery to send, in support of local superstars Tru Troopa, Jess Done, TDotLove head honcho and badman chef Tranzit, with MCs Zee and Decoy (!!!) on the mic. Tune in and request a Rush song or something, I dunno.

Needless to say, also since I've cleared up that massive (~3,000 track) backlog in my library, and I've got a pretty set of CDJ2000NXS2s to play around with, I'll be putting together OPERATIONS vol. 17 in the next few days. Stay tuned, or don't.

POST SHOW EDIT: lol fucken Logan D showed up with Decoy. That was sick.

Listened to LE's new album. I think it's good, albeit too long. He has good ideas, they just drag on too long on some songs. But several songs are really good, like these and Time to Think which I posted already.

Hell yeah, they definitely do!

Speaking of early Pendulum, I saw Bassnectar at a festival this past weekend, and while I know he's not a DNB artist, he dropped Fasten Your Seatbelts in his set which I thought was pretty awesome.

Picks up sort of where Venus no. 17 left off (which is the best because that is one of his best releases). The original mix of this is kind of underwhelming but the albums seems very promising.

Current Value is one of my all-time favourite producers. My favourite word to describe CV is versatile, in that they produce everything and anything! I recall reading an interview with CV where they said their approach to production was less about producing music and more about developing sounds which very much illustrates their style. Their 2017 album Deadly Toys is extremely good however it was over a year after its release that the music video for That Smile dropped which is awesome:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bChDftBFEo

Most recently CV released a new album PUER under Souped Up Records, the same outfit who're arranging that sick gig. It's very good, a dark abstract blend of neuro and jump-up. Here's track one, great hook:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pa1-KkKq0qo

Edit: oh yeah this is probably my favourite CV track, IDK why just something about the beat and vocals.

THE CULTURE II: Brockie & MC Det is this Saturday in Toronto, and I'm stoked to be on the bill for this one. We're bringing a PK Sound PA into the main room of OneLoft, a staple venue in our local scene. NC17, Marcus Visionary, Mr. Brown, and many more talented local DJs are on the lineup as well. It's sure to be a roadblock.

Here's a short promo mix I put together for the show. Four decks, 20 tracks, just under half an hour. I also took two angles of video, may still edit that together if I can find a video platform that won't slam me for copyright. Enjoy!

Tracklist

Schematic - Full Windsor
Changer - Blessing The Vibe
Treex - Fever
Hungry T - From Toronto With Love
The Vanguard Project - Is This Love (ft. Lucy Kitchen) (Dexcell remix)
Zombie Cats - Far From Us (ft. Sarah Pelicano)
Dub Elements - She Was A Robot
RMS & Konkreet - Gunshot
NC-17 & Nusense - Come Test
S.P.Y & Shadow Child - Rudeboy Step
Mako Come Down (Pusher Me)
Myth & NC-17 - Big Boy Sounds
Document One - Throwback
Edit - So True
Bredren - Get Physical
London Electricity - Empty Seat At The Table (ft. Whiney)
Four Points - This Rat
Fred V - Storm (ft. Rothwell)
Camo & Krooked - Heat Of The Moment (Bensley remix)
Misanthrop - Atlas

Brockie & MC Det for THE CULTURE II last night was off the hook. I was going to ask Det for a picture (with us both flexing, lol) but he didn't seem like he was in a good mood; sounded like they were having monitor troubles as there was a shitload of feedback on his mic. He kind of seems like a diva TBH, the monitoring situation was fine for the other MCs but he wanted to go stand up on one of the speakers and looked pissed that he couldn't hear himself and the mic was feeding back. I also saw him tell off my photographer buddy.

Their set wasn't even as hype as I expected. Honestly the best part of the night was NC17, who always puts on a loving clinic behind the decks, with Caddy Cad and MC Zee doing some of the best back-to-back MCing I've ever seen. Oh yeah, I opened the night and Caddy was spitting over my set which was quite an honour. The PK Sound rig was on loving point.

We've got Benny Page touching down this Sunday in Toronto with some of the usual suspects on supporting duty behind the decks.

I couldn't sleep again, so I put together a quick mix as promo for the show. As you might imagine this one is significantly less planned than my usual work, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out considering the tracklist didn't exist two hours ago and I'm running on bingo fuel, so to speak.

Tracklist
Embers of Light & Schematic - Foolish For You
Random Movement, Dave Owen & Jaybee - Embers & Ashes
London Elektricity - Never Trust A Hippy
Cnof - Sincere Joy
Artificial Intelligence - Break My Soul (ft. Steo)
Smote - Made By Soul
Murdock - Lay Down (ft. Sunday Rose)
mSdoS & Subsid - Everyday In My Life
Marcus Tee & Skinley - Breaker
Random Movement - The Lost Walk (Who Was I?)
Bladerunner - All My Love
Horace Andy - Natural Mystic (Saxxon remix)
Data 3 - Nikola
Toronto Is Broken - Care For You
Skantia - UV Rays

XPost from the DJ Mix thread

Here's a little test mix I rolled up yesterday morning on like two hours of sleep (I really need to do something about that) and abruptly decided, since I'm trying to cut my teeth on videography, what better way to familiarize myself with my cameras and editing software than to take video?

I've got enough gear to shoot some high-quality 4K from at least two angles, but space is tight in my home studio and time is tight with my schedule, so this above test mix is just the Sony Action Cam on my head shooting in 1080p. I actually do have two 4K angles of the above mix I did for Brockie & MC Det, but I missed a setting on one of the cameras related to aspect ratio, so what I saw in the monitor is not actually what the recording looks like, it cropped out one of my decks. Looking at wall mounts etc. to get a better angle of the whole setup.

Tracklist:

Drumsound & Bassline Smith - I Need Somebody (Digital remix)
Whiney & Keeno - Spheres (Polaris remix)
IMANU & Audio - Mirage
Royalston - Hasselblad
PLTX - 808 Games
Makoto - Show Me How You Feel (ft. Lorna King)
Smote - Power Of Nature
Nelver - 2 Questions
Alix Perez - Over You
Monty - Intoxication
Kasra & Enei - Easing
Cnof - Hold You Forever
Villem & McLeod - Let It Breath (ft. Leo Wood)
Anile & DRS - Constant Reminder
