Seems kind of weird for them to brag about breaking new ground with a same sex kiss in a franchise where we’ve already seen a man get sexual gratification from being choked by another man.

General Dog posted:Watching TFA and all the Han and Leia scenes make me want to barf So in TFA they take out the Republic government with the superweapon, right? There's just no government overseeing things in the galaxy besides the First Order. Also in TROS Rey is supposed to be having trouble with "good" jedi powers but in TFA she jedi mind tricks a guard with no trouble at all? They really hosed up not giving Boyega and Issac more time together, their intro in TFA is easily among the best stuff in any SW movie.

Everyone praising the film is watching it as a spectacle or a football game, everyone negging it is watching it as a serious film. More evidence that it’s a children’s movie.

In TFA Rey actually had somewhat of a character, but in TLJ she was just kind of there. I have no idea about TROS but I assume it's more of the latter.

Rey's character in TLJ is pretty straightforward I thought: a Jedi prospect seeking out a mentor, but doesn't really find one. She gets frustrated, eventually she says gently caress it I'll do it myself, and ends up dabbling in the darker aspects of the force a bit, forging a connection to the big bad villain of the series in the process.

Also whoever mentioned that Maz should've just been Ahsoka... thanks for making me realize that Lupita Nyong'o could've been cast as my favorite character, but her talent is squandered on a nothing character instead. Fuuuuck.

When it comes to how anything relates to other things and what connections exist between the movies, this trilogy is hands down the most confusing effort I've seen with this much money behind it. I liked the physicality of TLJ, but when I saw TFA afterwards for the first time I realized TLJ is a lot better if you don't actually know what the movie before it was like. It actually makes you want to see the first one, until you do.

Just watched Phantom Menace again for the first time in a long time, and it was actually good. Like the senate and politics stuff is way better for me now that I’m older than when I was a literal child. I remember enjoying it as a kid too and I think George knew he wanted kids to be into it. The stuff with palpatine in this one is actually really well done and I was shocked at like how good the pacing was. Anyway it was good folks

Saw the movie, went back and read the last ten pages of this thread in anticipation of cool and good posts about it. My god, reddit/redlettermedia has a whole lot to answer for. Star Wars geeks are loving miserable bores nowadays. I just wanna say after the progressive left got smashed in the UK election last week this film felt like a little hot chocolate for the soul. The story is sweet and hopeful, it feels like a feature length version of an 80's Saturday morning cartoon. Space Socialism rules and the Rebels are great good guys, I had fun on their adventure. Zombie Palpatine, force lightning, giant snakes/space horse friends and spaceship lazer battles all hit the mark. I preferred TLJ but I am very satisfied with the conclusion to the Kylo Ren trilogy. Sorry you haven't seen the film and yet feel the need to be the baddest rear end hater on CineD. You all come across very badly. "There's more of us. Full space Socialism now" - Star Wars Regards.

This is a forum where a lot of people unironically think that Zack Snyder is a great storyteller; I left my expectations of “sane” movie discussions behind a long time ago. That said, this movie IS flawed, though most of my problems with it stems from technical/pacing issues, rather than story/character arcs. I’ll see it again soon.

What seems to be the most telling thing about TROS is that there is apparently nothing worth discussing. It is similar to TFA in this regard. The most interesting things about TFA are those that aren't in the movie, like Finn's stormtrooper past actually mattering. As much as I dislike TLJ for all kinds of reasons, it's at least interesting. Anyway, I feel the need to share my alternate TLJ ending and followup movie fanfiction: Rey and Kylo go away together and Luke doesn't die. Leia maybe dies in the hyperspace ram, who cares. Luke and Finn (who is obviously extremely jealous and upset) then team up to find and redeem Rey. All kinds of things can happen then. It would be interesting if Rey actually got too dark for Kylo and maybe he would try to redeem her too and would get killed. Or Luke could catch up with Rey and Kylo and tell them to abandon the dark side only for them to go "ok, boomer, we're not really on the dark side, we're doing our own thing". It would shake up the character dynamic in an amazing way. I'm pretty sure someone, maybe even Rian Johnson, had this idea at some poit, but coulnd't get it past Disney.

The stuff there is in the movie is just boring and the stuff that was obviously cut is way more interesting. I remember watching it and thinking why even have Poe in this movie when he doesn’t do much, and I found out it was a reshoot and he was supposed to die. Why the gently caress is Phasma a character at all in any of these movies? Who and what are the first order?! I don’t want to read a book, comic book, play a game or watch a cartoon to figure this out. And then it’s just a retread of a New Hope. It’s pretty lazy and they don’t really show anything new? Why does moz or whatever have Luke’s light saber. Why can’t they just tell you these things?! I feel like JJ Abrams is great at directing action and frenetic scenes from time to time but character moments he’s pretty weak on. The Finn stuff that was cut is a huge shame as he was the most interesting character by far. Frustrating movie!
