It was more complicated than that Not that both sides were bad and force centrism was good, but that ~the force~ itself was a malignant aspect of the universe and should be destroyed. Which i think is an interesting way 2 approach star wars, tbh Scionix has issued a correction as of 03:43 on Dec 21, 2019 |

SOMETIME LATER GEORGE: now that my movie is out I can use it as a platform to spread the truth regarding the necessity of Socialism to the world. MAN IN SUIT: truuuuue, but if you make the nice toys, there could be a ranch and nine figgirinos in it for you... GEORGE: nine figgirinos? A man could buy a lot of neck reduction surgeries with that kind of scratch... The irony is, by the late 90s he stopped getting the surgeries he sold his soul for. Kinda darkly poetic.

There's a pretty good write up here about JK Rowling not getting the death of the author and how her stories can be read as very reactionary. She probably doesn't get that either. https://samkriss.com/2016/09/13/jk-rowling-and-the-cauldron-of-discourse/ quote:Rowling’s politics didn’t create those of the Harry Potter fantasy – she is, remember, not an author but a fan. Instead, the books themselves distilled all the latent fascism out of the political mainstream, boiling the discourse into a heavy green slime, and she drank it all down in one gulp. People sometimes try to play a fun game in which they match the Hogwarts houses to political ideologies, usually ending up with a ranked list of what ideas they like and don’t like (Gryffindors are nice social liberals like me! Donald Trump is a Voldemort!). This is the wrong way of looking at it; any division into types must itself exemplify a particular type, so that the four together express a single Weltanschauung. Gryffindor are fascists according to fascist ideology itself, the ideal-ego of the fascist subject: a natural elite, strong, noble, honourable, yellow-haired, and respectful of difference, but only within strict limits. Slytherin is the same figure as she appears to the outside world, her negative aspects projected onto a despised other. Hufflepuff is the fascist’s ideal ordinary political subject, dull and stolid, but essentially good-hearted; Ravenclaw is the indeterminate other that resists assimilation into this conceptual matrix, the thing that constitutes the order through its exclusion, the figure that in the early twentieth century was identified with the body of the Jew.

the real weird part about harry potter when it comes to racism is that even though we all know voldemort is racist a huge part of his coalition is made up of intelligent magical creatures who are pretty much completely fed up with the bullshit espoused by the ruling wizard leaders to the point that voldemort represents a significant improvement just because hes honest about it and is offering them material benefits for their support instead of platitudes in my favorite subplot that pretty much noone remembers hagrid and the german half giant headmistress head off to to try and talk the giants into backing the current ruling wizards instead of voldemort and give the chieftain some kind of trinket as a token of their friendship then when they come back the next day the chieftain is dead and replaced by a guy who hates them hagrid blames the whole experience on unseen voldemort conspirators behind the scenes and it simply does not occur to anyone that the internal politics of the giants were a wee bit more complicated than good versus evil and they might have had good historical reasons to want to murder a leader who has been discovered taking bribes from wizards
