Well that's why I asked if this was the right thread . Listening to those songs they're pretty good but not quite the same kind of music I was thinking of.

I like the darker, "gothier" stuff I guess you might say? I'm bad with band names in general, I just listen to radio playlists and stuff. I was kinda hear looking for recs on actual stuff to listen to. i miss Gothic Paradise Radio.

I didn't post a song from the first Cocteau's album, which is pretty gothy sounding.

the comeback album for the most part sounds like a bunch of crap that got edited together out of old stuff that wasn't good to enough to put on a record. and I suspect that is exactly what is.

Hi.

i stopped reading pitchfork a decade ago, but lists like that are great for when i can't think of anything to play at work, so thanks for that. happy to see Blonder Tongue Audio Baton ranked so highly; that's one of my favorite albums, period.

Loveless is the defining statement of shoegaze because it discovered, in layered guitar sounds and submerged singing, a language that serenely overwhelms as it distills the universal human experience.

Loveless sounds a lot better if you crank the bass up. I normally never mess with EQs but the slinky bass line in "Soon" deserves to be front and center, not buried in the mix. Sorry Kevin

That’s something Curve got comparatively right- bass front and center.

Took a look out of curiosity and it didn't imply that. He actually says that he's going to ask Toni if she's changed her mind (about her quitting in 2005).

Most bands pretty much do consider themselves to be in existence as long as all the members are still alive, though. Laika have been on recording hiatus since 2003 (with an album incomplete) and still occasionally update their website.

Looking cute, feeling cute.
Knowing Lush got hosed over for the same reasons that ultimately messed over the Smashing Pumpkins, i.e. writing credits being accredited in a lopsided fashion that affects royalties, sucks. Lush is absolutely my favorite band ever. I still think of "Lit Up" as the ultimate song to explain my relationship with my mother and keeping her going through her depressive episodes.

I never heard about that, thar really sucks. More bands should have done what REM did, early on they just said "we're putting all our names equally on every song no matter who wrote it" to avoid that poo poo

Miki talked about it in an interview. Phil had always resented not getting writing credit. when Lush was going to play 2 Coachella shows, Miki's immigration paper work got delayed because she had an old drunk driving charge which she forgot to mention. they ended up missing one of the shows, so the rather large payout they were going to get got cut in half. pissed off everyone else in the band and I guess that was the last straw for Phil.

I have been continuing my listen to shoegaze thing and am deeply hooked by Loveless, it is so evenly amazing to me. Soon in particular is getting repeated listens; I am in awe of this song and they way it plays with tension. OTOH Ride, which I also really like, sounds more like Britpop with a few flanger pedals in comparison. I really think MBV are heads and shoulders above the rest in what they were doing.
